Frogs start conference play 2-0
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kevin Samuel's tip-in with 2.0 seconds left lifted the TCU men's basketball team to its first road win of the season, 59-57, at Kansas State Tuesday night inside Bramlage Coliseum. The win also gave the Horned Frogs their first 2-0 start to conference play since joining the Big 12.
With the game tied, 57-57, Samuel recorded his first points of the second half when he tipped in RJ Nembhard's miss. The shot also gave the sophomore center 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and a career-high 15 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.
The Frogs (11-3, 2-0) built up a 10-point lead over Kansas State (7-7, 0-2) at halftime, but the Wildcats slowly clawed away at the lead throughout the second half. Kansas State cut TCU's lead to one and eventually tied the game on a 3-pointer from David Sloan with 13 seconds left in the game. Nembhard drove the ball, however the sophomore guard missed a jumper and Samuel was in a position to get the rebound and tip the ball in to help the Frogs snap a four-game losing skid against the Wildcats.
Senior Desmond Bane scored a team-high 16 points with the help of a 4-of-8 effort from 3-point range. Nembhard scored 15 points and had a team-high four assists.
The Frogs overcame its second-lowest shooting effort of the season (33.9 percent), but outrebounded the Wildcats, 41-32. KSU was just 4-of-20 (20.0 percent) from 3-point range, while TCU was 10-of-27 (37.0 percent).
