Horned Frogs have the second-most players on the squad
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- USA Volleyball has announced TCU's Katie Clark and élan McCall as members of its 20-player U.S. Women's Junior National Training Team (WJNTT).
TCU has the second-most players nationally on the squad. Nine players are from the state of Texas, while eight represent Big 12 institutions.
"We are really excited to see all the hard work élan and Katie have put in is paying off," TCU Head Volleyball Coach Jill Kramer said. "The opportunity to train at the Olympic Training Center with some of the best young players in the country, as well as a tremendous staff, will greatly benefit them as they continue to develop their all-around games. I can imagine this experience will be something they will always cherish. We will be pulling for them as they continue to compete for one of the 12 spots on the final roster."
Clark and McCall are two of only seven players in conference history to earn Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors in the same week.
Clark was third on the Horned Frogs last season with 194 kills, including a season-high 20 versus Texas Tech. The sophomore from Arlington, Texas, was in double figures in kills in eight Big 12 matches. She was fourth on the team with 55 blocks.
McCall, the first TCU volleyball freshman to earn All-America honors, is also the first Horned Frog to receive selection to the U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team. Additionally, she became the first freshman in program history to be named AVCA All-Southwest Region and AVCA Southwest Region Freshman of the Year. McCall was a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team and All-Big 12 Rookie Team. She led the Big 12 in kills per set (4.74) and points per set (5.21) while ranking eighth nationally in both categories.
A Leander, Texas, native, McCall is also the first Horned Frog to receive Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week and VolleyMob Player of the Week accolades. She earned six Big 12 weekly honors, including five Rookie of the Week selections.
