FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The TCU men's and women's indoor track teams concluded day one at the Tyson Invitational on Friday night in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with a flurry of season-high results.
In the men's long jump invitational, sophomore Cameron Echols-Luper put up a mark of 7.72m (25-4), his top distance recorded this season. In his first flight, he notched a mark of 7.67m (25-2), which topped his previous best set in Albuquerque two weeks ago. With his second attempt, he hit the mark of 7.72m to earn a fourth-place finish.
His mark set on Friday is second in the Big 12 and No. 11 in NCAA competition this season.
"With Cam getting a 25-4, for the most part he secured himself into the NCAA championship meet," director of track and field Darryl Anderson said. "That's always a highlight to get another guy going like that."
Junior Ronnie Baker (6.68) and sophomore Raymond Bozmans (6.73) qualified for the semifinals of the men's 60 meters, with Baker winning his heat. In the semis, the duo posted times of 6.70 and 6.83, respectively.
"I thought the 60-meter guys, Ronnie and Ray, competed really well," Anderson said. "It was a very loaded field of sprinters tonight. The good thing for us with Ronnie already securing his spot in the NCAA meet, he matched up with the NCAA leader in the semifinal. It didn't go as well as we would've liked for it to go, but he saw him, so now we can make the adjustments we need moving forward."
Freshmen Arin Rice and Bailey Sullivan also set season-bests in their respective women's 1 mile races. Rice recorded a time of 4:56.72 en route to a ninth-place finish in the mile seeded section, while Sullivan clocked in at 5:01.08, finishing 10th in her section.
"I thought Arin Rice competed well," Anderson added. "She still has some things to work on over the next two weeks but I thought overall she competed really hard tonight."
Senior Ramone Bailey posted a mark of 7.34m (24-1) picking up a ninth-place finish in the men's long jump. It's a season-high mark for the Kingston, Jamaica native.
