
TCU Falls Late To Rhode Island Tuesday

PUERTO AVENTURAS, Mexico - In a game that featured seven ties and eight lead chances, TCU led by two in the closing minutes Tuesday night, but lost the lead down the stretch, falling to Rhode Island at the Cancun Challenge, 66-60.
The Rundown
With 1:47 left in the game and the Horned Frogs leading by two, the Rams advanced to Wednesday's championship by ending the game on an 11-3 run, which included a key three with only 45 seconds left in the ballgame to regain the advantage. TCU, who moved to 2-2 on the season with the loss, went on an 11-3 run of its own midway through the second half to take a 51-49 lead after trailing by six at the 10:27 mark.
For the game, Brandon Parrish carried the Frogs, scoring a team-high 13 points on 4-for-4 from the field, including 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Vladimir Brodziansky and Karviar Shepherd chipped in with eight points apiece, respectively. Brodziansky carried TCU with six boards on the night. Senior Devonta Abron also added eight points, including five in the first half.
The Frogs, who led for 10 minutes and 58 seconds Tuesday, did most of its damage off the bench, recording a 17-9 advantage. The Purple and White shot 77.3 percent from the charity stripe.
Chauncey Collins got the Frogs on the board on the opening possession of the second half, scoring on a tear drop, but Rhode Island would score a few plays later to regain a four-point lead. The Rams expanded their lead to 38-33, but Abron would score on back-to-back trips to make it a 40-37 ballgame with 12 minutes left in the second stanza of action.
With 11:56 showing on the clock, JD Miller scored on an old fashioned three-point play and TCU was in business, now down only 42-40. Rhode Island would push it to 47-42 before Miller found Malique Trent down low for a bucket plus the foul.
TCU would tie it at 47-47 midway through and then take a 51-49 lead with 7:21 showing on the clock when Collins went coast-to-coast for a layup. URI would continue to battle, climbing back to take a 52-51 advantage before the sophomore from Oklahoma City buried a jumper from the foul line to regain the Purple and White lead with 3:56 left in the contest.
With the scoreboard 57-55 in favor of the Frogs, the Rams' scored on a three-point play to take a 58-57 lead and never trail again, closing the game out at the free throw line.
