Quotables
Recapping the last meet and looking ahead to Saturday
"In the first meet, we were able to get in and out healthy and actually put together some good performances," director of track and field Darryl Anderson said. "Ronnie Baker in the 60 meters and then the mile relay team ran really well. On the women's side, Tiffany Terry got off to a good start. Arin Rice won her mile race. We had people advance to the finals of their races, so we felt good about the first meet."
Now we move to the second meet, we've had a few days of good weather, so we're excited about getting started. This is a meet where there will be some good competition and some good races. The quality will be upgraded from where we started."
On the New Mexico Invitational
"Our focus this weekend is to let our people run some open races and compete in multiple races. So, we're going to try to have everybody run two races this weekend. Some will even run three when you include the prelims and finals. We will also add into the mix Kolby Listenbee, who will run the 60 meters, along with Cameron Echols-Luper, who will open up in the long jump this weekend. We're excited to see what they're starting point will be. Also, we'll have the likes of Ronnie Baker and Raymond Bozmans going on the men's side and Scotty Newton will get his debut in the triple jump.
On the women's side, we're going to be missing a handful of girls this weekend. We're hoping to get a little more production out of the some of the areas. We'll have Arin Rice running the 800 meters and we're looking for Megan Smith to get into the 50 feet range in the shot put this weekend. Makaila Flannigan has trained really well over the last few days and we think she's going to have a major breakthrough."
