Scouting San Diego State
The Aztecs return seven starters from last year's squad that finished 8-10-3, and 5-3 in Mountain West play. The roster is highlighted by the return of senior midfielder Cat Walker and senior defender Megan McQueeny. Walker was the 2009 MW Player of the Year and named the 2009 MW Tournament MVP. The Aztec were picked to with the MW by the league's coaches in the preseason poll.
SDSU enters the match with a 5-5-3 overall record after battling through a scoreless tie against New Mexico in its conference opener and falling 5-0 at No. 16 Santa Clara Sunday. The Aztecs have not won since earning a 3-0 decision vs. Hawaii on Sept. 16.
TCU-SDSU Series History
The Aztecs currently hold a 6-3 advantage in the all-time series against TCU. The Horned Frogs dropped a devastating 1-0 outcome in double-overtime to SDSU in the Mountain West opener last season. The two teams have met in Fort Worth three times since the series began in 1991.
Scouting Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are a more experienced group in 2011, returning all 11 starters from the 11-8-1 squad from a year ago. Sophomore Jessica Fuston and senior Taylor Lytle were both honored as members of the Preseason All-Big 12 team, while the team was picked to finish fifth in the league.
TTU enters the match with a 8-3-2 overall record after earning a 0-0 tie against Baylor before stealing a 2-0 win Oklahoma. The shutout over the Sooners was a school-record 10th of the season for the Red Raiders.
TCU-TTU Series History
The Frogs boast an 11-5-2 record in the all-time series with Texas Tech, including a streak of six-straight victories from 1999-2005. The Red Raiders needed double-overtime to top TCU in the last meeting between the two programs in Fort Worth in 2009.
Free Vera Bradley Zippies Friday
The first 2,000 fans at the TCU-SDSU game Friday night will receive a purple-patterned "zippie" from Vera Bradley. The gates will open at 6 p.m., one hour prior to kickoff
Help TCU Make a Difference
Fans will have a chance to give back this weekend at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. TCU Soccer is joining forces with Tarrant Area Food Bank for the Texas Tech match Sunday, asking fans that make a canned food donation at the gate and they will receive admission for $2.
Counting On Calhoun
Senior forward Jordan Calhoun has scored the game-winning goal for TCU in each of the last three victories. The Norman, Okla., native paces the Mountain West with her three game winners and has been on fire since returning to the Frogs' starting lineup on Sept. 9, netting five of her goals in the last seven games. TCU has a 4-0-1 record in games that the senior finds the back of the net. All of her scores have come in the second half.
