Kemboi Clocks A Third-Place Finish At Cowboy Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla. - Sophomore Agnes Kemboi crossed the finish line in third-place on Saturday to lead the TCU women's cross country team to a sixth-place showing in the final team standings at the historic Cowboy Jamboree.By placing third overall at the OSU Cross Country Course, Kemboi recorded the highest finish on the women's side in Stillwater since former Horned Frog great Glady's Keitany won the Cowboy Jamboree title in 2000. Overall, TCU has now had an individual place in the top-10 in the individual standings four out of the past five seasons.
As a team, the TCU women posted its highest finish at the Cowboy Jamboree under distance coach Shawn Winget and the highest finish overall since 2006 with 179 points. On the men's side, the Horned Frogs placed 11th overall with 265 points. Host school Oklahoma State won both the men's and women's team titles on Saturday.
Kemboi, a Kenya native, recorded a time of 21:30.75 on Saturday, which is the top 6K time in the Mountain West Conference this fall. Fellow sophomore Tricia Terry followed in 17th-place with a time of 22:31.14. Finally, Kelly Dawson led the next pack of Frogs, placing 35th overall out of 83 competitors.
On Saturday, Festus Kigen, a 2010 All-America honoree during the indoor track and field season, opened his 2010 campaign crossing the finish line in 12th-place with a time of 24:57.84 in the men's 8K. Alex De La Garza, who collected Mountain West Conference Men's Athlete of the Week honors following his last outing, had a solid showing on Saturday, placing 32nd overall. Senior Jeff Pels followed in 46th in a highly competitive field in Stillwater.
TCU will continue its 2010 season on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
