FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU head men's golf coach Bill Montigel announced on Monday the Horned Frogs' 2009-10 schedule, which will feature one of the most difficult and challenging campaigns in TCU men's golf history.
"We have an impressive schedule for the 2009-10 season that will test our team against the best programs in the country in every tournament," said Montigel. "This is a schedule that our players are very excited about, and a schedule that they wanted to play to test their own abilities. I think this speaks very highly of our guys that they want to play the best-of-the-best in every tournament."
The Frogs will begin the 2009 fall season at the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Gold Mountain Golf Course in Bremerton, Wash., which will feature the top-15 NCAA Division I programs in the country, on Sept. 27-28.
Following the PING/Golfweek Preview, the Frogs will travel to the Greg Norman Course in Palm Desert, Calif., where they will look to defend their tournament championship at The Prestige at PGA West for the second consecutive season. A trip to Windermere, Fla., for the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 25-27 will close out the fall campaign for the Frogs.
For the 19th straight season, the Frogs will travel to Hawai'i to begin the spring campaign as TCU will take part in the UH Hilo Intercollegiate at the Mauna Lani Golf Resort on Feb. 3-5. Last season, the Frogs recorded a fourth-place showing at the UH Hilo Intercollegiate, which included nine teams ranked in the top-25 in the tournament.
The Frogs will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., for the second consecutive season to take part in the John Hayt Invitational hosted by the University of North Florida. Last season, the Frogs finished eighth overall at the John Hayt Invitational, but will defend The PLAYERS Cup that they captured a season ago.
TCU will have a busy month of March as the Frogs will compete at the Las Vegas Invitational hosted by UNLV at the Southern Highlands Golf Club on March 12-14. Following the Las Vegas Invitational, the Frogs will travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the National Invitational Tournament at the Tucson National Golf Resort. The Frogs finished third overall at the National Invitational Tournament a season ago and captured the tournament crown during the 2008 campaign.
To close out the month of March, the Frogs will travel to Marana, Ariz., for the Callaway Collegiate Match Play at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain on March 21-23. The Callaway Collegiate Match Play will feature the best of the best among NCAA Division I collegiate golf programs.
For the ninth time in 11 seasons, the Frogs will travel to Austin for the Morris Williams Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Texas in their first tournament of April. The Frogs will remain in Big 12 country for their next tournament when they travel to The Traditions Club in College Station for the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational on Apr. 17-18.
In May, the Frogs will return to the Tucson National Golf Resort and will look to defend their title at the 2010 Mountain West Conference Men's Golf Championships on May 6-8. The NCAA Regional Championships will begin on May 19-21 while the 2010 NCAA National Championship will be held at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., on June 2-5.
