
Frogs And Falcons Ready For Thursday Afternoon Battle

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU will continue Mountain West Conference action on Thursday afternoon against Air Force.
Following its 11:30 a.m. contest against the Falcons, the Horned Frogs will battle Wyoming on Saturday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. Start time for the match against the Cowgirls is set for 7 p.m.

Scouting Air Force
Air Force comes into Thursday's contest with a 2-9-1 overall record and 0-1-0 mark in conference action. The Falcons, who are 0-4-0 on the road in 2009, have posted victories over Austin Peay and New Hampshire this fall.
The Air Force women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 match to Wyoming last Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. After Air Force struck for an early goal seven minutes into the match, Wyoming scored three consecutive goals in the first-half to win 3-1 last Friday.
Stephanie Patterson scored the Falcons goal off a cross from Kelly Bieber. On the play, Patterson reached a ball just outside the box and raced towards Wyoming's net. From 15 yards out, Patterson appeared to head left, but shot to the right corner of the net for the score.
Patterson, Bieber and Bridgett Murphy have each record two goals this season, while goalkeepers Ariana Green and Charity Blanton have combined to save 59 shots.
Scouting Wyoming
The Cowgirls, who play New Mexico on Thursday night, head into this weekend with a 7-4-2 overall record, including a 1-0-0 mark in the Mountain West. Wyoming, who has not lost on the road this fall, dominated Air Force last weekend to move to 1-0-0 in the league.
Against the Falcons, UW scored three first half goals to secure a 3-1 victory in Colorado. Last Sunday, Wyoming downed Northern Colorado, 1-0, in a nationally televised contest. In the match, senior Emily Layton netted the lone goal of the game in the 48th minute. With the win, the Cowgirls pushed their win-streak to three-straight games, outscoring their opponents 5-1 in those three contests.
Wyoming, who last lost on Sept. 25 to Gonzaga, is led on offense by Layton and Carmen Blume. Layton has scored three goals this fall, while Blume has chipped in with two goals and two assists.
Scouting TCU
TCU, who is 7-5-0 on the season, will take to the pitch on Thursday with a home record of 4-1-0 this fall. The Horned Frogs went 0-1-0 last weekend, falling to New Mexico last Saturday in Albuquerque.
In its last outing, TCU totaled 17 shot attempts, but dropped a 1-0 decision to New Mexico at the UNM Soccer Complex. Junior Nikki Wilbur led TCU in the match with four shot attempts, including one on-goal. Jordan Calhoun, a Norman, Okla., native, tallied three shot attempts for the match. Overall, UNM held a slight advantage in shot attempts for the match, 22-17. On defense, TCU, who held the Lobos scoreless during the first half, tallied seven saves, including four in the second half.
Calhoun continues to lead the Frog offensive attack, wracking up eight goals and a league-leading six assists. Senior Lizzy Karoly has also been productive this fall as she has scored five goals, including one game-winner.
All-Time Series Breakdown
Thursday's match against Air Force will mark the eighth time in program history that the two MWC schools have faced each other. TCU leads the overall series, 5-1-1, including 1-0-0 at home. In 2008, TCU battled back from a halftime deficit to defeat the Falcons 3-1 in Colorado.
When TCU and Wyoming meet on the pitch on Saturday night, the Frogs and Cowgirls will be meeting for the eighth time. UW leads the overall series 4-2-1 and has posted 1-0 victories the last two seasons.
Match Notes
The Purple and White have fared well against the Falcons in recent years, defeating Air Force in five of their last six meetings, including a 3-1 victory last season. The Falcons last defeated TCU in 1996, dropping the Frogs, 2-0. The 2006 showdown between the two schools ended in a 0-0 draw, while the Horned Frogs have used 3-1 victories to dismantle Air Force the last two seasons.
Wyoming has enjoyed some success against TCU the last couple of years, having not lost to the Frogs since 1997. The Pokes have won two-consecutive games against the Purple and White and four of the last five contests. In 2006, TCU and Wyoming battled to a 1-1 decision in Fort Worth.
Bouncing Back After A Conference Loss
With a 1-0 setback to New Mexico last weekend, TCU will look to get back to its winning ways on the pitch on Thursday against Air Force. In 2008, the Frogs were 2-0-0 following a defeat in conference play, while the Purple and White went 2-2-0 in games following losses during the 2007 campaign.
TCU On The National Scene
One match into the conference season, the Frogs' Jordan Calhoun has fared well amongst the national leaders.
Calhoun currently sits at No. 26 in the NCAA in points-per-contest, while also ranking No. 15 overall in points-game highs in the nation. The sophomore has also posted the No. 11 ranking for game-high goals with three against Stephen F. Austin earlier this fall.
Mountain West Statistics Update
Heading into Saturday's contest, TCU currently ranks No. 1 in the conference in points (67), goals (24) and goals-per-game (2.00). The Frogs are No. 2 in shots (219), assists (19), assists-per-game (1.58) and corners (82).
Individually, sophomore Jordan Calhoun leads the MWC in assists and assists-per-game with six and 0.50, respectively, on the season. Calhoun, who also ranks No. 2 in the MWC in shots (44) and shots-per-game (3.67), comes into tomorrow ranked third in goals (8) and goals-per-game (0.67) in the conference. Senior Lizzy Karoly ranks No. 4 in goals (5) and goals-per-game (0.42), while Kaylie Garcia is currently No. 4 in game-winning goals (2).
