KELLER, Texas -- The TCU men's and women's swimming team opened the season Friday at the Keller ISD Natatorium. The women took home runner-up honors, while the men's squad finished in third.
"I couldn't be more pleased with the way both of our teams started the season," head coach Richard Sybesma said. "Our women swam extremely well and I saw some good things out of our guys as well."
The women's squad earned wins in two events to finish second to cross-town rival SMU with 96 points. Junior Stephanie Futscher teamed up with freshmen Jennifer Oster and Ashley Bolin to win the 300-fly relay (2:53.34), while senior Katie Rosen joined up with sophomore Ellie Bradley and freshman Kelsey Krug to the 300-breast (3:22.79).
TCU had 18 women swim, including six freshmen; while the men's squad had 17 members compete, including seven newcomers.
On the men's side, the 200-free relay team of Josh Bagby, Ben Iannocone, Josh Schifferer and James Thivierge earned the Frogs' top finish of the night, taking runner-up with a time of 1:28.62. TCU had a team finish in third place or higher in every event.
