TCU will look for another strong performance from freshman Tanya Gorin, who finished as the team's top shooter in both air rifle and smallbore in Ohio. Senior Celeste Green and juniors Emily Conway and Nikki LeCompte will join her on the air rifle squad. Gorin, Green, Conway and freshman Kristine Tisinger will comprise the smallbore unit.
Last week, the Frogs finished second behind only West Virginia and ahead of the Akron (Blue) and Akron (Gold) teams. Individually, Gorin earned runner-up honors in air rifle with a score of 578 and fourth place in smallbore with a 577. Both scores mark the second most in school history for their respective event. Her air rifle score is behind only her own record score of 581, which she set November 12, 2005 at Arkansas-Fort Smith, and her smallbore score is second only to Celeste Green's record of 580 set against San Francisco in Reno, Nevada on October 15, 2005.
Head coach Karen Monez is confident that her team can improve even further. "The air rifle scores from recent competitions show the strength we have in that event. Our goal is to improve by 20 or more points this weekend," she said. "Our smallbore team does not have the depth we are looking for just yet, but it is constantly improving and becoming more consistent."
Following this weekend's competition, the Frogs will have a home match against Air Force Feb. 3-4, before traveling to Lexington, Va. to shoot in the NRA Sectionals & NCAA Qualifier Feb. 11-12.
