TCU placekicker Nick Browne has been selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VI Football Team, announced today.
Browne, a junior from Garland, Texas, carries a 4.00 GPA in finance/real estate at TCU, in addition to his duties on the football and soccer playing fields.
The 5-10, 165-pounder kicker has connected on 22-of-26 field goal attempts this season, a nation-leading 2.44 field goals made per game for the 8-1 and 24th-ranked Horned Frogs. With 95 points, he is just three points shy of the school record for a kicker, set by Chris Kaylakie in 2000. One of 20 semi-finalists for the Lou Groza Award, which goes to the nation's outstanding placekicker, Browne ranks fifth in the country in scoring, averaging 10.56 points per game. He needs just one field goal to match the school record for field goals in a season, set by 1995 Lou Groza Award winner Michael Reeder. Browne has twice been named the Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week this season and has earned the award four times in his career.
Browne, who also plays for the TCU men's soccer team during the fall, was named the 2002 recipient of the Pop Boone Award, which is presented to the TCU Male Athlete of the Year.
