TCU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jeremiah Donati announced the hiring of Jenny Garrison on Dec. 22, 2021, as the first head coach of the Horned Frogs’ women’s triathlon program.
Garrison saw immediate success during her first year at the helm for the Horned Frogs, producing two team wins, two top-10 finishes and a trip to Nationals.
In their first competitive race in program history, the Horned Frogs beat Drury at the DeGray Lake Triathlon (Sep. 10). Garrison had each six of her competitors finish inside the top-10, with Maria Coral taking first-place with a program-best time of 1:04:14.30.
TCU held its first home race during the inaugural season, hosting the Battle in the Fort Triathlon (Sept. 17) which saw the best race field outside of Nationals. The Horned Frogs took first-place with a total score of 170, beating No. 1 and eight-time national champion Arizona State by two points.
The Horned Frogs finished their inaugural season with a sixth-place finish at Nationals (Nov. 11) led by Maria Coral who placed 12th with a time of 1:05:10.90.
Garrison coached both Maria Coral and Sara Gimena to CTCA All-American honors in year one, Coral earned Second-Team honors where Gimena received Honorable-Mention honors.
She comes to TCU from North Central College in Naperville, Ill., where she began the women’s triathlon program and won three national championships. She also served as North Central’s head women’s swimming and diving coach the last two seasons.
Garrison, an elite triathlete, led North Central to three consecutive Division III National Championships (2017-19) and five appearances overall at the USA Triathlon National Collegiate Championships. The Cardinals were third in 2021. Garrison and North Central also produced the last four Division III Individual National Champions, most recently Hailey Poe in 2021.
She was the 2019 USAT Division III Coach of the Year. She has coached eight Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association All-Americans and 11 All-Region honorees, including 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year finalist and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient Naomi Hill.
A 2001 graduate of Benedictine University, Garrison is a former professional triathlete with more than 15 years of competitive experience. She represented Team USA in World Championship competition in Australia, France, Switzerland and Canada. She won overall amateur female honors at the 2006 USAT National Championships and placed third at the 2014 USAT Championships. She is also a two-time finisher at the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon.
