Horned Frogs win program-record 10th Big 12 game
LUBBOCK, Texas – Another combination of a strong rebounding effort and a double-double from Xavier Edmonds lifted TCU to a 73-65 win at No. 10 Texas Tech Tuesday night at United Supermarkets Arena.
The Horned Frogs (20-10, 10-7) have won seven of their last eight games and in all eight games have outrebounded their opponent. Tuesday was a continuation of that trend which saw a 39-25 advantage on the glass. Xavier Edmonds brought down a team-best 12 rebounds to go with a team-high 20 points for his 10th double-double in the last 12 games.
Micah Robinson scored 15 points and Jayden Pierre had 14, each on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.
TCU led the majority of the first half, but Texas Tech (22-8, 12-5) shot 53.6 percent and made six 3-pointers to lead 39-36 at halftime.
The Horned Frogs played better defensively in the second half, holding the Red Raiders to 36.0 percent shooting from the field. A deep Pierre 3-pointer capped off a 10-2 run to give the Frogs their largest lead of the game, 62-53, with 5:53 to play.
The Red Raiders quickly cut it to four points. The Frogs responded and after a layup by Brock Harding and one of two 3-pointers from Liutauras Lelevicius TCU's lead was back to nine, 67-58 with 2:06 remaining.
The Frogs closed the game by making four of their final five shot attempts.
The win gave TCU its third top 10 victory of the season and its 10th Big 12 Conference win which is the most conference wins by the Frogs in 28 years.
TCU will conclude the regular season when it hosts Cincinnati on Saturday for a 1 p.m. tip on TNT.
