ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Three school records fell on the final day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic at TCU track and field wrapped up another successful weekend of competition on the oval. Ben Kirbo and Yannik Knobloch each bested their own school records in the pole vault and heptathlon, respectively, while Tia Williams took down a16-year-old record in the 400m on Saturday afternoon.
Kirbo cleared a career-best 5.45m (17-10 ½), topping his own school record of 5.41m set last season. The senior finished as the runner-up, although no competitor in the event was able to get over the bar on the next height. His mark ranks No. 23 in the nation so far this season.
Knobloch finished with 5,425 points in the heptathlon after competing in the final three events. He broke his own school record by 25 points after an impressive afternoon to place fourth overall at the meet. The sophomore cleared 4.60m in the pole vault (first), posted a 2:55.01 in the 1000m (seventh) and ran an 8.58 60m hurdles (eighth).
Finally, Williams dropped over a second off her lifetime best time in the 400m to break the school record and finish fourth in the event. Her time of 52.36 was over half a second quicker than Kristal Juarez (52.94 in 2010) for the top time in program history. She is just the second Horned Frog to break 53 seconds in the 400m, and her time ranks No. 13 in the nation this year.
In the 60m hurdles, Amari Kiluvia had a stellar day. She ran season-best times in each round, dropping an 8.20 in the prelims, 8.14 in the semis and 8.14 again in the finals. Her time was one hundredth shy of a PR that would've seen a fourth school record fall for the Frogs. In the final, the junior crossed the finish line third with the No. 18 mark in the NCAA this season.
Sprinters London Tucker and Indya Mayberry had successful afternoons on the straightaway. They were among four Frogs (Bailey Johnson and Teanna Harlin) to qualify for the semifinals of the 60m dash. Making her collegiate debut, Johnson ran the 10th fastest 60m time in TCU history with a 7.40. Tucker and Mayberry each advanced to the final, where they finished fifth and sixth respectively with times of 7.27.
Ronnie Kendrick also had a solid day, racing in the men's 400m. He ran a strong 45.76 to finish fourth overall.
Rounding out the top performances were Serina Ramirez (shot put) and Damilare Olukosi (triple jump) with a pair of sixth place results.
