
TCU Concludes JAE Foundation Battle for the Boot Spring Kickoff

Horned Frogs wrap up competitive three-team tournament
FORT WORTH – As the dual match season inches closer for the TCU women's tennis team, a quartet of players took part in the JAE Foundation Battle for the Boot Spring Kickoff from Jan. 16-17 at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
For the two-day stretch, TCU went a combined 9-1 in both singles and doubles. TCU went a perfect 6-0 in singles play, highlighted by a pair of career-first victories for freshmen Natalie Salkova and Jennifer Jackson. Tomi Main and Cayetana Gay also competed in the tournament for TCU in both singles and doubles play.
The two other teams who also took part in this event were Michigan State and North Texas. For the two-day tournament, TCU was slotted exclusively against North Texas athletes.
FRIDAY
The Frogs started out the first-day with a pair of doubles wins, the first coming from Main and Jackson defeated North Texas' Lilly Schultz and Lou Chalard, 6-1. Gay and Salkova earned a 6-2 victory against Pia Petelinsek and Giulianna Ciangherotii to build some positive momentum heading into singles play.
In singles, Main collected a 6-2, 6-0 victory versus Giulianna Ciangherotii, Gay earned a gritty 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 three-set triumph against Carolina Laydner and Salkova earned the first singles win of her career in 6-2, 6-3 fashion against Ujin Batsukh.
SATURDAY
On the second and final day of competition, Main and Jackson continued their winning ways, taking down Batsukh and Laydner, 6-1. After Salkova and Gay fell in doubles, TCU switched its focus to single play, where the Frogs would post a perfect 3-0 record for the second straight weekend.
Main secured a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Laydner and Salkova defeated Schultz 6-3, 6-2 to give both individuals two singles wins for the weekend. Jackson would earn the first singles victory for her career, besting Chalard 6-1, 6-0.
