Horned Frogs coast to 4-0 win over crosstown rival
FORT WORTH – No. 2 TCU pitched a perfect scorecard vs. crosstown rival SMU on Wednesday, blanking the Mustangs 4-0 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (20-2, 7-0 Big 12) did not drop a set all dual. TCU locked up the doubles point with wins on in the first and third positions, highlighted by a 6-2 victory for Jack Pinnington and Cooper Woestendick over No. 68 Georgi Georgiev and Ofek Shimanov. Lui Maxted, Cooper Woestendick and Roger Pascual ended the affair with singles wins on courts two, three and five.
The Frogs now face No. 13 Baylor (20-8, 5-1 Big 12) at 1 p.m. on Sunday in a battle for the No. 1 seed in next week's Big 12 Championship. TCU already won a share of the regular season title – its sixth since 2015 – and will claim the undisputed championship with a victory over the Bears.
TCU notched its 16th consecutive victory over SMU and extended its home winning streak to 31 matches. The Frogs have won all 11 of their outdoor matches.
Head coach David Roditi earned his 298th career victory at the helm of his alma matter.
Doubles Rundown
With two nationally ranked pairs, doubles looked to be SMU's best chance at scoring a point.
TCU nullified those prospects in short order.
The Horned Frogs earned three break points in the first nine games combined. Pinnington and Woestendick parlayed a triple break into a 4-1 head start with TCU holding 3-2 leads on courts two and three.
Georgiev and Shimanov won just one of a possible four service games vs. Pinnington and Woestendick, the ITA No. 70 doubles team.
Simultaneous with the victory on one, Maxted and Filip Apltauer scored their match's first and only break point leading 4-3. Maxted served out the match, with the pair clinching on a deuce.
Duncan Chan and Albert Pedrico battled No. 52 Trevor Svajda and Louis Cloud on court two and left their match unfinished at five games all.
Pinnington and Woestendick notched their 12th victory as partners and improved to 4-0 vs. nationally ranked pairs.
Apltauer and Maxted have won each of their three matches since being paired together for the first time in the Horned Frogs' 4-0 win over No. 74 Oklahoma State on Thursday.
TCU won its 14th consecutive doubles point on the purple courts dating back to May of 2023. The Frogs' season doubles record now stands at 18-4.

Maxted put a second point on the scoreboard for the Horned Frogs before the entirety of set one of singles play had even concluded. The senior, tabbed 26th in the latest ITA singles rankings, rolled past Shimanov, 6-2, 6-1.
Leading 2-0, TCU then claimed tiebreakers on courts one, four and six to all-but-end any prospects of an individual Mustang victory.
Pascual was the second Frog to finish, taking a 6-3, 6-2 decision vs. Cloud.
Woestendick picked up the match clincher via a 7-5, 6-4 triumph over Jerry Barton.

Chan got the nod on court six for the third straight match. The newly-minted Big 12 Player of the Week, Chan claimed a 7-4 tiebreaker vs. Maks Silagy in set one and held a 4-3 advantage with a break point in his pocket in the second frame
TCU has not surrendered a singles court in five of its last six matches. In total, the Horned Frogs have dropped just six points in singles across their 11 outdoor duals.
Woestendick extended his singles winning streak to nine matches. He remained perfect at home, boosting his record at Bayard to 5-0.
