Robinson has first-career double-double
FORT WORTH – TCU made 12 3-pointers and received a 25-point performance from Tanner Toolson in a 104-63 win over Saint Francis Thursday at Schollmaier Arena.
Toolson was 8-of-11 from the field, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range. The transfer from Utah Valley was one of seven different players to make a 3-pointer for the Horned Frogs, who finished 12-of-33 from deep.
Micah Robinson led a strong rebounding effort with a career-high 10 to go with 13 points for his first-career double-double. TCU (1-1) dominated the boards with a 48-22 advantage.
The Frogs never trailed in the game and after a layup by David Punch to go ahead 28-18 with 9:20 remaining in the first half, they never led by fewer than double-digits.
TCU built its lead to a 53-29 halftime advantage and as many as 49 points, 104-55 with 1:52 to play.
Punch finished with a solid all-around game with 11 points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots in 24 minutes of play.
In place of the season-opening starter at the center position, Malick Diallo, who is out of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee, Xavier Edmonds scored 12 points and had nine rebounds. The top junior college player in the country last season was 8-of-9 from the free throw line on Thursday, contributing to a 24-of-28 (85.7 percent) effort for the Frogs.
Saint Francis (0-2) was led by Skylar Wicks' 18 points and six rebounds.
TCU will return to action on Monday at 7 p.m. as it hosts Lamar. The game will air on ESPN+.
TEAM NOTES
- TCU improved to 1-0 all-time against Saint Francis.
- Jamie Dixon improved to 4-0 all-time against the Red Flash.
- The 41-point win was the largest margin of victory for a TCU team since defeating Florida A&M by 48 in last season on Nov. 4, 2024.
- TCU was 12-of-33 from three. The 12 made 3-pointers were the most for the program since making 14 against Florida A&M on Nov. 4, 2024.
- TCU was 24-of-28 from the free throw line. It was the most makes since hitting 26 out of 29 attempts against Montana State on Dec. 22, 2024.
- TCU outrebounded SFU, 48-22. The Frogs improved to 1-0 this season, 141-44 under Dixon and 150-44 since the 2015-16 season when outrebounding their opponent.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Micah Robinson scored 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds for his first-career double-double.
- Robinson went 6-of-7 from the free throw line. The six makes tied a career-high and his total in TCU's previous game against New Orleans.
- Tanner Toolson scored a game-high 25 points. It tied for the third-most he's scored in his career and the 10th time he's scored at least 20 points.
- Toolson was 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from 3-point range in 18 minutes of play.
- David Punch scored in double-figures for the second-straight game with 11 points to go with eight rebounds and four blocks.
- Punch had three assists, which tied a career high.
- Xavier Edmonds had a near double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds in 18 minutes of play.
- Freshman Kayden Edwards and redshirt freshman Ashton Simmons both scored their first collegiate points. Edwards had five points and Simmons finished with one made 3-pointer for three points.
- Brock Harding had a team-high five assists. He has yet to commit a turnover in two games with the Horned Frogs.
- RJ Jones was 2-of-3 from 3-point range for six points in five minutes of play late in the game.
- All 15 players that suited up were able to see action on the floor and all but four scored.
