Anna won the 1-meter event against Texas A&M and BYU, the lone female diver to break the threshold of 300 points
FORT WORTH – Anna Kwong of the TCU swimming and diving team was named the Big 12 Diver of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. Kwong had a stellar showing in the Frogs' season opener against No. 12 Texas A&M and BYU.
This marks Anna's seventh Big 12 Diver of the Week honor in her career. She won the accolade twice her freshman year, three times her sophomore year, and once her junior year.
The senior from Omaha, N.E. won the women's 1-meter event, and stood as the lone female diver to break the threshold of 300, scoring 301.10. Anna made Zones cuts on both the 1m (301.10) and the Platform (237.6) events. Kwong finished 4th on platform and 6th on 3-meter.
"Anna had a good performance on 1m this meet," said head diving coach Anthony Crowder. "Coming off of NCAA qualifications last year, we are trying out some new and higher degree of difficulty dives and have had successes and learning opportunities so far. She is a very hard worker and I am confident that everything is going to be in order to have a great post-season showing this year."
Kwong recently earned NCAA elite student-athlete status with a qualifying score on the women's 3m diving event at the 2024 USA Diving Olympic Trials. Her score of 282.35 points earned her a spot on the Team USA Diving Tier 3 squad. The senior qualified for the Olympic Trials based on her second-place finish in the 3m dive at Big 12 Championships last February. Kwong finished with a school-record 369.75 points while also medaling in the 1m.
The women's swimming and diving team will be back in action next weekend with a two-day meet against SMU and Arkansas. The first day (Nov. 1) will be at TCU and the second day (Nov. 2) will take place in Dallas, hosted by SMU.
