Horned Frogs off to best start in six seasons
FORT WORTH - JaKobe Coles' 20 points helped lead the TCU men's basketball team to its best start to a season in six years with a 93-74 win over Alcorn State Tuesday in Schollmaier Arena.
The Horned Frogs last started 5-0 during the 2017-18 season when they started 12-0.
Coles scored 17 of his points during 15 minutes of action in the first half which TCU led 41-33 at halftime. The junior from Denton made his career-high fourth 3-pointer in the second half and finished 4-of-5 from beyond-the-arc and 7-of-11 from the field.
TCU's lead grew to as many as 26 points with 44 seconds to play before Alcon State (1-5) scored the game's last seven points.
The Horned Frogs made their most free throws from a Jamie Dixon coached team, going 32-of-39 for 82.1 percent. That number included a 20-of-21 effort from the line in the second half. TCU also shared the ball well by evidence of 20 assists on 27 made field goals.
The Frogs conclude their six-game homestand on Monday at 7 p.m. against Houston Christian at Schollmaier Arena. The game will be available on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
