Martin and Morris bring home wins at the Vanderbilt Invitational
LUBBOCK, Texas – Highlighted by wins from Ryan Martin and Graydon Morris, the TCU track and field teams had solid meets at both the Red Raider Open in Lubbock, Texas, and the Vanderbilt Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
Coming off a personal-best in the 1,000m last week, Martin shined once again in the event. He won with another personal-best time of 2:23.69, moving him up to second all-time in program history.
In his 5,000m debut, Graydon Morris ran a 45.35 in the final 300m to seal the victory for his first win of the season. His overall time of 14:19.64 is the fourth fastest time in school history.
On the women's side, both Mariana Martinez and Peyton Mcquillan placed in the top 5 in the 5K. Martinez (17:29.07) placed second while Mcquillan (17:31.69) finished fourth.
At the Red Raider Open, Gavin Champ had a solid triple jump debut. His leap of 14.88m (48-10) was good for second overall. Adding to the jumps squad's success was Jaren Holmes and Patrick Sylla in the long jump. Holmes (7.19m, 23-7.25) took third and Sylla (7.07m, 23-2.50) placed sixth.
Ben Kirbo continued his strong rookie campaign with an eighth-place finish in the pole vault with his height of 5.08m (16-8.0). Also finishing eighth was Jade Ferrell with her height of 1.68m (5-8.0) in the high jump.
Ke'Yona Gabriel jumped to an eighth-place finish in the triple jump with her leap of 12.20m (40-0.5). In the men's shot put, Kyler Van Grouw took eighth with his throw of 14.71m (48-3.25).

The distance squad begins Day Two at the Vanderbilt Invitational with the women's mile. The race is set to begin at 1:05 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Nashville, Tenn. The meet will be televised on SEC+.
