TCU Completes Perfect 2-0 Day at Unconquered Invitational

The Horned Frogs notch their 14th perfect day of the season

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- No. 2 TCU beach volleyball (32-2) completed a perfect 2-0 day at the Unconquered Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. The Horned Frogs took a 4-1 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and a 3-2 victory over No. 5 LSU. This marks the 14^th time this season that TCU has delivered a perfect 2-0 day.

Maria Gonzalez and Ana Vergara displayed a perfect weekend. The pairing defeated five opponents, including four that were nationally ranked. The duo claimed straight set victories over pairings from No. 19 Stetson, No. 15 FIU, TAMUCC and No. 5 LSU. They also took a three-set victory over the No. 4 pairing from No. 4 Florida State. Their average margin of victory for the weekend was 6.3 points.

Five individual Frogs notched perfect 2-0 days: Tania Moreno, Alexis Filippone, Hailey Brockett, Maria Gonzalez and Ana Vergara. Moreno claimed two straight set victories today from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Filippone and Brockett took both of their victories from the No. 3 position. Gonzalez and Vergara at No. 4 secured both of their victories today in straight sets.

QUICK HITS AGAINST TAMUCC:

Gonzalez and Vergara took the first point of the day in a straight set victory from the No. 4 position: 21-8, 21-13.
The duo improved their seasonal record to 23-4.
Rochelle Scott and Peyton Yamagata claimed the second consecutive point for TCU in their straight set victory at No. 5: 21-12, 21-11.
The duo notched their second win together.
Scott improved her seasonal record to 28-2. Yamagata, 7-1.
Filippone and Brockett clinched the match for the Frogs with their two-set victory on No. 3:21-15, 21-9
The duo claimed their 15th win as partners.
Filippone improved her seasonal record to 20-9, Brockett to 21-6.
Tania Moreno and Hailey Hamlett scored the fourth consecutive point for TCU from the No. 2 position: 22-20, 21-18.
The pairing improved their seasonal record to 2-1.
Moreno notched her 25-7 victory of the season, Hamlett 18-7.
All four Frog pairings took straight set victories for an average margin of victory of 8.13 points.
TCU remains unbeaten against TAMUCC, 11-0, and undefeated against teams from Texas, 27-0.

QUICK HITS AGAINST No. 5 LSU:

Moreno, switching partners for the second match, teams up with MacTavish to take the first point of the dual from the No. 1 position: 21-11, 21-18.
This is the duos first appearance and victory together as partners.
Moreno improved her seasonal record to 26-7, MacTavish 22-8.
Gonzalez and Vergara scored the second consecutive point in a straight set victory from the No. 4 position: 21-19, 23-21.
The duo claimed their 24^th victory as partners.
They notched their 16^th ranked win and improved to 6-2 against top 5 opponents.
Filippone and Brockett took the last point of the dual to clinch the Horned Frog victory: 18-21, 21-10, 17-15.
The No. 3 pairing claimed their 16^th victory as partners.
The duo achieved their 6th ranked win as partners.
TCU is 2-0 against LSU this season. LSU still leads the series 8-3.

UP NEXT
TCU returns to Fort Worth to host its third tournament of the season, the TCU Invitational, April 15-16. The Horned Frogs are set to face four opponents including two nationally ranked. On Friday, the Frogs will go toe-to-toe against Missouri State and No. 9 Stanford. On Saturday, TCU will face No. 16 Pepperdine and Houston Baptist.
