Undefeated TCU Defeats No. 6 LSU and Tampa at LSU Beach Invitational

The Horned Frogs are 24-0 this season with seven Top 10 wins

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana -- No. 2 TCU beach volleyball (24-0) completed another perfect weekend at the LSU Beach Invitational in Baton Rouge. For the second time this season, the Horned Frogs collected two-top 10 wins in the same weekend. TCU swept Tampa, 5-0, and defeated No. 6 LSU, 4-1, today after taking down No. 4 Florida State, for the second time this season, earlier in the weekend.

"It was a great weekend for us," Head Coach Hector Gutierrez said. "It was a big test for the team to be playing at LSU. We have never beat them over here and with today's victories, we get to go back home with a perfect record. The girls showed a lot of intensity and a lot of confidence today, playing at such a high level. I am really proud of everybody on this team because winning these matches haven't been easy. We are enjoying every victory but it is important for us to take every match one match at a time."

TCU took down two of the conference's toughest competitors this weekend, No. 4 FSU and No. 6 LSU. Three Frog pairings took victories over both ranked opponents: Daniela Alvarez/Tania Moreno, Maria Gonzalez/Ana Vergara and Megan Muret/Rochelle Scott.

Alvarez and Moreno went 4-0 over the weekend, extending their program-record winning streak to 15. They haven't lost a set throughout the streak (32-0). Both Top 10 victories this weekend came in straight sets, with an average margin of victory of 6.5 points. They dominated LSU's top pair, clinching the match with a 21-12, 21-10 result.

Maria Gonzalez and Ana Vergara took two three-set victories against the No. 4 pairings from FSU and LSU. Gonzalez and Vergara are no strangers to the three-setter, they have been nearly unbeatable in the final frame this season, posting a 7-1 record.

Muret and Scott faced FSU and LSU pairings from the No. 5 position to notch two more ranked wins under their belts. The duo took a two-set victory over FSU and three-set victory over LSU. They are 18-1 this season, the second best record on the team behind Alvarez and Moreno (23-1).

QUICK HITS AGAINST TAMPA:

Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno secured the first point for the Horned Frogs from the No. 1 position: 21-11, 21-9.
With this victory, the duo notched their 22^nd win of the season.
Alvarez achieved 54 career wins, Moreno 48.
Maria Gonzalez and Ana Vergara took the next point in a straight set victory at No. 4: 21-14, 21-8.
The duo claimed their 16^th win of the season as a pairing.
Sutton MacTavish and Hailey Hamlett clinched the match for TCU at the No. 2 position: 21-13, 21-14.
The duo notched their 6^th win as a pairing.
MacTavish improved her record to 17-4, Hamlett to 13-3.
Megan Muret and Rochelle Scott scored the fourth point in a three-set victory at No. 5: 21-9, 19-21, 15-12.
The pairing notched their 17^th win together.
Alexis Filippone and Hailey Brockett secure the sweep for the Frogs in their three-set victory: 23-25, 21-13, 15-10.

TCU went 2 for 2 on three set matches against Tampa.
This was the first time in program history that the Horned Frogs met up with the Spartans. They stay perfect leading the series 1-0.

QUICK HITS AGAINST No. 6 LSU:

Muret and Scott scored the first point of the dual to round out a perfect weekend from the No. 5 position: 21-19, 21-15.
Riding a 10-game winning streak, the duo improved their seasonal record to 18-1.
The pairing won 10 out of the 11 sets played this weekend.
Three set phenoms, Gonzalez and Vergara took the second point for TCU at No. 4: 18-21, 21-16, 15-12.
The pairing has notched 3 straight three-set victories to improve to 8-1 in three-setters this season.
Gonzalez claimed her 17^th win of the season, Vergara her 18^th.
Alvarez and Moreno clinched the match for the Frogs in their big two set victory: 21-12, 21-10.
The pairing stayed up on their 15-game winning streak to notch their 23^rd win of the season.
20 points is the largest margin of victory against any ranked opponent from the duo this season.
McHugh and Hamlett took the sand for the first time together to pull out a three-set victory over LSU's No. 2 pairing: 19-21, 21-13, 15-11.
The duo achieved their first win as a pairing.
McHugh improved her seasonal record to 10-2, Hamlett to 14-3.
For the first time since 2016, the Horned Frogs have taken down the Tigers. LSU leads the series 2-8.

TCU will travel to Los Angeles on Thursday to participate in a day of duals at UCLA. The Frogs will take on two top-10 opponents, No. 9 Hawaii and No. 1 UCLA. The Frogs begin play at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against No. 9 Hawaii.
