No. 7 TCU Beach Volleyball finishes out its historic 2021 regular season this weekend
FORT WORTH – No. 7 TCU Beach Volleyball (21-4) closes out the 2021 regular season with four dual matches against this weekend in Gulf Shores, Ala. The Horned Frogs will battle No. 4 Florida State as well as Tulane and Southern Miss. TCU is hoping to build on this historic season, in which it has set program records in total wins (21) and wins over ranked opponents (nine).
THE SCHEDULE
Saturday
9:30 a.m. - vs Tulane
1 p.m. - vs No. 4 FSU
Sunday
10:30 a.m. - vs Southern Miss
12:30 p.m. – 4th place vs. 3rd place
2 p.m. – 1st place vs. 2nd place
FROG FOCUS
The Horned Frogs are coming off a 4-0 showing at the TCU Invitational. TCU defeated Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Tulane, Boise State and Houston Baptist. The wins over TAMUCC and HBU clinched another undefeated season against Texas schools, TCU is now 23-0 all-time against in-state rivals.
The top three pairings (Daniela Alvarez / Tania Moreno Mateeva, Hailey Brockett / Olivia Blackburn and Rochelle Scott / Maria Gonzalez) each were perfect 4-0 for the weekend. Leading TCU to its first perfect home record in program history, 12-0.
The Horned Frogs have already played all three teams on the schedule this weekend multiple times. TCU defeated Southern Miss, 5-0, and Tulane (twice), 3-2 and 4-1, this season and will be looking forward for revenge against tournament host, No. 4 FSU. The Seminoles got the better of the TCU twice this season, 5-0 and 4-1.
Hailey Brockett enters the weekend tied for the most wins over a ranked team in program history (20). She will have a chance to set the new record, should she defeat Florida State with her partner, Olivia Blackburn, at the No. 2 position.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Tulane enters the weekend, 19-11, after a 3-1 showing at the TCU Invitational. The Green Wave have yet to beat a ranked opponent this season.
No. 4 Florida State earned their 14th sweep of the season with a 5-0 win over No. 17 Stetson at the Unconquered Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla. The Horned Frogs will go toe-to-toe with the Seminoles for the third time this season, after the Seminoles took down the Frogs at the Gamecock Grand Slam, 1-4.
Southern Miss. heads into the weekend, 9-21, after a 0-4 weekend at the Georgia State Diggin' Duals and a, 2-0, mid-week matchup vs Southeastern Louisiana and New Orleans. The Horned Frogs will match up with the Golden Eagle for the second time this season in Gulf Shores.
