TCU Sweeps Day One of Horned Frog Challenge

Rochelle Scott remains unbeaten, 6-0, this season

Fort Worth -- No. 9 TCU beach volleyball (5-1) had a clean sweep today, winning both matches on the first day of the Horned Frog Challenge. The Horned Frogs defeated Central Arkansas, 5-0 and No. 14 Florida International, 3-2. Second year Horned Frog, Rochelle Scott, won both of her matches today. She remains unbeaten this season with a perfect 6-0 record.

The Frogs dominated their match against Central Arkansas, winning all five matches in straight sets. Daniela Alvarez and Tania Monero Mateeva posted one of the most dominant sets in program history, defeating UCA, 21-6, in their first set at the No. 1 position.

Caroline White and Josie Miller started off the competition against No. 14 Florida International in a nail-biting set at the No. 4 position. The duo battled back and forth with the Panthers but could not pull out a victory in the first set, losing, 31-29. The Frogs first point of the match came from the No. 5 position, when Jordan Westendorff and Trinity Cavanaugh secured their first win as a pair. The No. 2 and 3 positions came through with two straight-set wins to secure the victory for the Horned Frogs.

Two pairs will enter the second day of the Horned Frog Challenge with a perfect record this season: Rochelle Scott / Maria Gonzalez and Olivia Blackburn / Hailey Brockett both stand at 4-0 after today's results.

QUICK HITS AGAINST CENTRAL ARKANSAS:

Caroline White and Josie Miller secured the first point for the Horned Frogs, winning in two sets at the No. 4 position: 21-13, 21-12.
The duo moves to 2-2 as a pair this season, with all four results coming at No. 4.
Hayley Boll and Trinity Cavanaugh finished next winning, by retirement in the No. 5 position: 21-10, 16-20.
Boll and Cavanaugh received their first win as a pair when one of the UCA opponents suffered an injury allowing the duo to secure the point for TCU.
Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno Matteva secured the win for the Frogs by winning two sets at the No. 1 position: 21-6, 21-14.
21-6 is the largest margin of victory of the season by any pair from TCU, breaking the previous record, set by Alvarez/Moreno last weekend (21-10).
The win was their fifth straight as a team, the longest streak by any TCU pair, so far, this season.
Rochelle Scott and Maria Gonzalez won at the No. 3 position in two sets: 21-11, 21-13.
They delivered a nine-point margin of victory in their sets today, the second largest margin by any Horned Frog pair outside of Alvarez/Moreno.
Olivia Blackburn and Hailey Brockett polished off the sweep in the No. 2 position winning in two sets: 21-14, 21-17.
This was their third win of the year as a pair, all three have come in straight sets.

QUICK HITS AGAINST FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL:

Jordan Westendorff and Trinity Cavanaugh scored the first point for the Horned Frogs, winning in two sets at the No. 5 position: 21-18, 21-18.
This is the pair's first win together.
Rochelle Scott and Maria Gonzalez secured the next point for the Horned Frogs in two dominating sets at the No. 3 position: 21-12, 21-13.
The duo remains undefeated this season and finishes the day with four lopsided set victories. Scott/Gonzalez outscored their opponents today by a combined score of 84-49.
Olivia Blackburn and Hailey Brockett solidified the Horned Frog victory with a straight set win at the No. 2 position: 21-17, 21-19.
It was their second win of the day as well. Blackburn/Brockett have now won four straight matches this year.
Tara Patton and Yamagata won an exhibition match, 21-16, 21-19. The win did not count toward the dual score and will not be reflected in their career records.
TCU won eight matches today, bringing the overall team record to an exceptional 20-10 after six duals.

Up Next
The Horned Frogs are back in action tomorrow in the Fort at 2p.m. where they will play UAB (3-2). UAB split matches on day one of the Horned Frog challenge beating Southern Mississippi 4-1 and dropping to Florida International 1-4.
