The Horned Frogs fall just short in singles to drop the first match of ITA Indoor Nationals
FORT WORTH – No. 3 TCU men's tennis (6-1) suffered its first defeat of the season on Friday morning, dropping a 4-3 dual to No. 7 Virginia in the opening round of the ITA Indoor National Championships inside the Atkins Tennis Center in Champaign, Ill.
TCU won the doubles point but dropped three of four three-set matches, in the loss. This snaps a 15-match winning streak dating back to the 2020 Indoor Nationals (Feb. 14, 2020).
"What a battle!" Head Coach David Roditi said. "We just happened to be on the wrong side this time. Credit to UVA for hanging tough and coming back in some matches to beat us. I felt they were just better at critical moments in some of the matches we lost. They played with a little more belief than we did in some instances and it paid off. We must learn from that and comeback strong again tomorrow. We are playing the best teams in the country back-to-back-to back and we will be ready to take those matches. Congratulations to UVA. Now we will wait to see which team we play between Tennessee or North Carolina. Either one will be as tough as today. Go Frogs!"
