FORT WORTH — Year two of the James Winchester & Co. era saw numerous accomplishments for TCU's swimming and diving program.
Men's Swimming
The Horned Frog men broke eight school records in Winchester's second year as TCU's head coach. Freshman Janis Silins led the way for the men, breaking both the 100 and 200 breast en route to two silver medals at the 2020 Big 12 Championship (100 & 200 Breast). No TCU swimmer had finished higher than second place since John (Ford) Story won the 2016 Big 12 Championship in the 100 Breast. Silins' 100 Breast time (52.83) broke Story's Big 12 Championship time from 2016. Silins' 200 Breast time (1:54.63) bested former TCU great and Olympian Edgar Crespo's record from 2012 that won a Conference USA title.
The Frogs also collected four individual medals between Silins' two silvers, Kade Knoch's bronze in the 200 back and Dusan Babic's bronze in the 500 free.
Women's Swimming
TCU's women placed third overall at the 2020 Big 12 Championship. It marked the best performance for the women at the conference meet since the 2012-13 season. They concluded the meet with 534 points and placed ahead of West Virginia and Iowa State. The women broke three school records at the conference meet between the 200 medley, 200 free and 400 free relays.
Diving
For the second consecutive year, Connie Deighton and Izzy Ashdown represented TCU at the NCAA Diving Zones. Last season, Deighton became the first Horned Frog to reach the final round at the Zone meet since 2009. This season, the Frogs had two Zone D Platform Finalists between Ashdown (12th) and Deighton (16th).
Ashdown broke two school records in a dual meet against UIW. On 1-Meter, Ashdown's 323.625 bested Kirsten Connolly's 2016 record of 321.30. In 3-Meter, the Sydney, Australia native's 362.175 edged Kelly Seely's 360.15 that had stood since 2006. Ashdown registered six NCAA Zone cuts on 3-meter and four zone cuts on 1-meter.
CSCAA NIC
The final two days of the 2020 CSCAA NIC were canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. At the end of day one, TCU led the field with the most overall team points (504). The Horned Frog men placed second with 257.50 points while the women finished third with 246.50 points. TCU had 10 swimmers qualify for A finals.
Big 12 Weekly Accolades
Ashdown was a Big 12 Diver of the Week in November for her record-breaking performances.
The Frogs also had a Big 12 Swimmer of the Week in January. Babic, a freshman, notched his first dual meet double win of his Horned Frog career against West Virginia to win the award.
