Mapaya, a freshman triple jumper from Harare, Zimbabwe, finished third at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. Mapaya entered the meet seeded No. 13 with a 16.11m (52' 10.25") from the Big 12 Championship meet. He entered the finals in seventh place after a 16.06m jump on his second attempt. He jumped up to third on his fifth attempt, jumping 16.38m (53' 9") which is his new personal-best and second-best in school history.
Mapaya and the track and field return to action this weekend when they open the outdoor season at the TCU Invitational, the team's lone home event of the season. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 16-17.
Grabowski, a senior from Beaver, Pa., reached the smallbore finals at the NCAA Championships where she finished fourth. In the final, she fired a 432.0. Grabowski led TCU in the first relay, firing a 585. TCU finished the third overall at the NCAA Championships.
The Horned Frogs had another successful season under head coach Karen Monez. TCU shot a score of 4,700 or better in all but one match this season. The Frogs fired eight of the top 10 team air rifle scores, four of the top 10 team smallbore scores and four of the top 10 aggregate scores in program history.
