Oct. 12, 2016 Caylin Moore
When we talk about the Horned Frogs Factor, no one personifies it more than Caylin Moore. If you're not familiar with his story, Caylin is from inner-city Los Angeles. His father is incarcerated for life and his mother was a victim of sexual violence. Caylin was homeless as a child. He eventually matriculated to TCU and is on an academic scholarship. He carries a 3.9 grade-point average while majoring in economics with a minor in mathematics and sociology. He also founded S.P.A.R.K. (Strong Players Are Reaching Kids), a community outreach program for student-athletes in our football program.

Caylin was one of 24 student-athletes from all levels of college football selected to the 25th-Anniversary Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, representing the best in the country with service to others. To recognize that accomplishment, Caylin was honored with a surprise trophy presentation as he and his teammates spoke to a youth football team Monday night. CLICK HERE to see the presentation. Representing Allstate was former TCU men's golf student-athlete Jeff Heimenz.
GUEST SPEAKER
In our continuing efforts to always educate our athletics staff on best practices, we had a campus visit Wednesday from the law firm of Pepper Hamilton. It was a very informative session as part of our monthly All-Staff meeting. The Pepper Hamilton group was the latest in our series of guest speakers. They provided great counseling on institutional compliance with federal and state laws.
BASKETBALL PARTY ON THE PLAZA
Horned Frogs Hoops is headed to Sundance Square! Please make sure to mark your calendar for next Thursday, Oct. 20, when our men's and women's programs hold their Basketball Party on the Plaza from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It's a great opportunity to visit with head coaches Jamie Dixon and Raegan Pebley as well as their staffs and student-athletes. We'll have music, food, beverage and interactive games along with our spirit groups. The event is sponsored by Patterson Kia of Arlington.

NEW BASKETBALL SEASON TICKET SALES
It's not too late to get season tickets for the 2016-17 season for our men's and women's basketball programs. Please call the ticket office at (817) 257-FROG (3764) to review options.

Soccer has road matches Friday at Baylor and Sunday at Oklahoma State. Cross country has its final meet before the Big 12 Championships as it travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Pre-Nationals. Women's golf heads to North Carolina for the Greenville Regional Preview.

NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Edition's Answer: We went to Office Space with Initech's Peter Gibbons asking his neighbor Lawrence, "When you come in on Monday and you're not feeling real well, does anyone ever say to you, "Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays?"

This Week's Question: "Mom! The meat loaf!"
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Clay Court is a freshman tennis student-athlete at Ocean State University (OSU). Clay was selected to receive a $5,000 scholarship for the 2016-17 academic year. When OSU researched the scholarship, it was determined that one of the criteria for the award is the recipient must attend OSU. Is this a permissible source of financial aid for Clay to receive?
No. NCAA Bylaw 15.2.6.3 states that a student-athlete may receive financial aid through an established and continuing program to aid students, provided: (Adopted: 1/15/11 effective 8/1/11, Revised: 4/23/14)
(a.) The recipient's choice of institutions is not restricted by the donor of the aid;
(b.) There is no direct connection between the donor and the student-athlete's institution; and
(c.) The financial aid is not provided by an outside sports team or organization that conducts a competitive sports program to an individual who is or has been a member of that team or organization.
