FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU swimming & diving head coach Richard Sybesma added depth to an already strong signing class on Wednesday with the addition of Western Kentucky transfer and sophomore John Smith for the 2015-16 season.
"John will be an asset to our program in the butterfly events and sprint relays and we look forward to him joining our team," Sybesma said.
A native of Hunstville, Alabama, Smith posted a third-place finish at the Conference USA Championships last season in the 100 fly behind a time of 49.26 seconds. His personal-bests in the 50 free and 200 fly also came at the conference meet at marks of 20.64 and 1:48.84, respectively.
His work out of the pool and in the classroom paid dividends as he earned Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition from Conference USA for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better during the 2014-15 academic year.
Smith will be majoring in business marketing at TCU and will be eligible to compete immediately.
