BASEBALL FACILITY UPGRADES
Work is officially underway on the next upgrade to Charles and Marie Lupton Baseball Stadium at Williams-Reilly Field. This latest project, which was raised through $7.5 million in donations, includes a new locker room, meeting room, team lounge, sports medicine center, equipment room and coaches' offices. We'll also have a new video board in place for next season.
RECORD NUMBER KEEPS GROWING!
Our official new record-breaking and sold-out total for football season tickets this season is 33,600! Thank you Horned Frogs Nation!
CONGRATULATIONS NIKKI!
Congratulations to equestrian student-athlete Nikki Woodward on being named Miss Rodeo Texas! Nikki graduated in May with a degree in communication studies.
CLASSROOM EXCELLENCE
It was great to see our women's swimming and diving program recognized as a Scholar All-America Team for a 43rd consecutive semester by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. Their streak is for having a team grade-point average of at least 3.0. Our men's swimming and diving program was also recognized for its 3.0 team GPA in the spring semester.
Women's golf was also the recipient of academic honors. Standouts Alexandra Bonetti, Kortnie Maxoutopoulis and Kelly McGovern were named All-America Scholars by the Women's Golf Coaches Association for maintaining GPAs of at least 3.5.
SCHLOSS RECOGNIZED
As you know, we have the best baseball coach in America in Jim Schlossnagle. He was named this week as a 2015 ABCA/Diamond Regional Coach of the Year. Our first victory next season will be the 517th of his career, tying him with Lance Brown as our all-time winningest skipper on the diamond.
TCU ASTROS
When Riley Ferrell, a mainstay in our bullpen the last three seasons, signed his professional contract with the Houston Astros recently, another Horned Frog pitcher was right there with him. The below photo shows Riley with Astros' president Reid Ryan, son of former TCU assistant baseball coach and diamond legend Nolan Ryan.
TCU NIGHT
It was nice seeing all the purple Wednesday evening at Globe Life Park for TCU Night at the Rangers' game. Our baseball program was recognized in a pre-game ceremony for its Big 12 championship and College World Series appearance. We then had Trevone Boykin throwing the first pitch to head baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle. The below photo is courtesy of Kelly Gavin/Texas Rangers.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: My friend "TCU Doug" Strout submitted the following quote by Ben Whishaw as Q in Skyfall, "Age is no guarantee of efficiency."
This Week: "I make car parts for the American working man, because that's what I am, and that's who I care about."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Corner Blitz is a junior football prospect that is interested in enrolling at Ocean State University (OSU) for the fall 2015 term. Corner has not yet had an opportunity to visit campus and has only had limited conversations with the coaching staff. Corner is going to attend one of OSU's football camps this summer and would really like to spend some time during the camp speaking with the coaching staff and getting a tour of the whole campus. Is this permissible?
No. NCAA Official Interpretation - 12/5/13 - Contact Restrictions Prior to Camps or Clinics (I) - states that for purposes of contact restrictions on the day or days of a prospective student-athlete's competition, a non-institutional, private camp or clinic is considered an athletics competition or athletics event and an institutional camp or clinic is not considered an athletics competition or event. Therefore, in sports other than basketball, a coaching staff member may make recruiting contacts during a permissible contact period with a prospective student-athlete participating in a non-institutional, private camp or clinic only after the completion of activities on the final day of the camp or clinic. Conversely, official or unofficial visits may occur on an institution's campus on the day of an institutional camp or clinic before the camp or clinic begins.
