On Jan. 29, Kim Collins posted a world-leading time of 6.52 seconds in the men's 60 meters in Dusseldorf, Germany.
His time as the best in the world would only stand for two days. So, on the first day of February in Moscow, Russia, Collins charged down the track reclaim his spot at the top, clocking in at 6.48, a personal-best.
Two days later in Torun, Poland, he achieved the mark of 6.48 again to win his fourth race of the year.
Every year since 2012, Collins has improved upon his season-best time in the 60 meters, tallying times of 6.56 (2012), 6.53 (2013), 6.49 (2014) and now 6.48 (2015). A feat that anyone would be proud of, but is a little bit sweeter thanks to the fact that Collins is now 38 years old and is finishing ahead of athletes almost half his age.
He's had an illustrious career and has shown no signs of slowing down, literally. But Collins isn't the only former TCU great making waves overseas.
Jessica Young's 2015 campaign has also gotten off to a great start. In Karlrsuhe, Germany, Young paced to a time of 7.18 and a second-place finish in the women's 60 meter-dash.
Her time was only 0.01 seconds off of her PR set while she was a student at TCU in 2011. It's a mark that stands as the No. 6 time in the world this season.
Young, an American, still holds four school records, while Collins claims three. The one they have common, the 60 meters. A record that could change hands by the time the season is over.
Junior Ronnie Baker is well on his way to challenging for Collins' school record of 6.53 set back in 2000. On Jan. 31, Baker, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, set a personal-best mark of 6.56 seconds en route to a first-place finish at the New Mexico Team Invitational in Albuquerque. His time stands as the fourth-best in NCAA competition this season and ranks ninth in the world.
Collins' other indoor record could also fall this year at the hands of Sam Watts. Watts, a junior from London, England, posted a world-leading and PR time of 20.69 seconds in the 200 meters in Albuquerque last weekend. A feat that earned him the Big 12 Male Co-Athlete of the Week. The TCU record set by Collins stands at 20.52 and was set in the same year as his 60 meter mark.
Around the world, former TCU sprinters Kim Collins and Jessica Young are flying down the track and achieving great things, but you don't have to look far to see the great things happening for the current roster at TCU.
