The qualifier is one of the four scores used by the NCAA to determine the eight teams that will compete for the National Championship. The other three scores come from regular season action. All three regular season match scores must come from different match locations.
The Horned Frogs have won six consecutive qualifiers against Air Force. The contest last year saw TCU finish one point shy of its top aggregate score of the season with 4,660 points.
The two squads have seen each other three times in the spring season. TCU fell to the Falcons but defeated Coast Guard in a Jan. 17 triangular match in Fort Worth, and a 13-shot difference in center shots gave Air Force the tiebreaker for second in a five-team match on the eve of the PRC Championships (Feb. 7-8).
TCU's mark of 2,370 in air rifle in the Saturday win over UTEP tied for the third-most in school history. It was also the fourth straight match the squad improved in that discipline.
Several Horned Frogs enter the match on a roll. Sally Li shot a career-high 599 in air rifle against UTEP, while Mindy Miles fired the fifth perfect 600 in NCAA history at the PRC finals.
Miles' 592-point season average in air rifle is the best on the team, while Li and Hannah Black are both two shots behind. Miles holds a 596-point average over her last four outings.
The smallbore discipline has a similar pattern, as Black and Li tie atop the leaderboard with a 580 averages. Ariana Grabowski holds a season clip of 578.
Air Force finished fourth at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships, which was also its last outing. Tyler Rico (594 air rifle, 575 smallbore) and Meredith Carpentier (591, 573, respectively) earned all-conference honors.
