Feb. 12, 2015 PACNET
I very much enjoyed the opportunity to deliver the keynote at PACNet '15 in Newport Beach, Calif., earlier this week. This annual conference, produced by our partner Paciolan, is one of the largest in the collegiate athletics industry. Paciolan is a technology leader specializing in integrated ticketing, marketing and fundraising solutions and has been heavily involved in all that we do with the ticket office, marketing department and Frog Club for many years.
FOOTBALL SEASON-TICKET UPDATE
We're off to a great start on our football season-ticket renewals. In the opening few days, we've had a great response on both ticket and parking renewals as we make our way to our goal of a sellout at 32,000 season tickets. We very much appreciate those of you who have responded so quickly. CLICK HERE to renew your season tickets online or you can call our athletics ticket office at (817) 257-FROG (3764).

TOP PERFORMANCES
Congratulations to Mindy Miles and our third-ranked rifle program! Just a freshman, Mindy posted a perfect score of 600 in air rifle to lead us to the Patriot Rifle Conference championship last weekend in Colorado Springs. Mindy recorded just the second perfect score in our rifle program's history and the fifth all-time in the NCAA.

ON THE DOCKET
It's another action-packed weekend for our sports programs. In addition to our season-opening baseball home series with Southern Illinois, we have men's basketball hosting Oklahoma State on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Wilkerson-Greines. We also have a marquee equestrian contest on Saturday in Springtown as our second-ranked Horned Frogs face No. 1 Baylor. Rifle, ranked third, is also at home on Saturday against UTEP.

Women's basketball is at Oklahoma on Saturday at 3 p.m. Women's tennis, ranked 20th, hits the West Coast this weekend for matches against No. 1 UCLA and Pepperdine. Men's and women's indoor track and field will be in Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational, while No. 17 men's tennis begins play Friday at 9 a.m. against No. 3 Virginia at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago. Women's golf opens its spring season on Sunday at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: Patrick Swayze, as surfer and philosopher Bodhi in the timeless classic Point Break, said, "Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true."
This Week: "You get your first ten-speed bike, and suddenly you're Lance Armstrong."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Two women's soccer student-athletes at Ocean State University have had issues with focusing and concentration the last several months. During the team's out-of-season conditioning period, the coaches would like these girls to meet with the institution's sports psychologist. Is it permissible for the coaches to require the student-athletes to meet with the psychologist outside the playing season?
Yes with conditions. NCAA Official Interpretation - 2/2/15 - Use of Sports Psychologist (I) - states that a sports psychologist may attend practice sessions without being included in the institution's coaching limitations in a particular sport, provided the individual does not provide any technical or tactical instruction related to the sport or make or assist in tactical decisions related to the sport during on-court or on-field practice or competition. A sports psychologist may evaluate a student-athlete during a practice session only for the purposes of assisting the student-athlete in off-court or off-field non-coaching activities (e.g., mental imagery) directly related to the sport; however, if a student-athlete is required to meet with the sports psychologist, such a meeting is considered a countable athletically-related activity. Further, an institution may require a student-athlete to meet with a sports psychologist as a permissible out-of-season conditioning activity, provided the time engaged in the sessions are included in the maximum limit of eight hours per week for countable athletically related activities outside the playing season. In bowl subdivision football, the sports psychologist does not have to count as one of the five strength and conditioning coaches permitted to work with the football program in any capacity.
