TCU Announces Scholar-Athletes of the Month

The TCU senior placekicker concludes his final season maintaining strong momentum on the field and in the classroom.
Oberkrom was named first-team Academic All Big-12 two consecutive years as a sophomore and junior.
Sophomore year, the Arlington native held a streak of 79 consecutive makes which tied the TCU career record, putting Oberkrom third among active placekickers in the nation. The same year, Oberkrom earned Capital One Academic All-District.
The psychology major set six TCU records, ranked third in Big 12 history in field-goal percentage and was honored among College Football Performance Awards National Placekicker of the Week his Junior year.
In his third season, Oberkrom also served as a semi-finalist for the Lou Groza Award, an award honored annually to the nation's top college football placekicker.
The Horned Frogs take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Stillwater, Okla. at 2:30 p.m.
Outside hitter for TCU volleyball Ashley Smith was recognized on the high school level as a devoted student-athlete, and continues to be honored as a junior at the college level.
Smith earned 24-5A academic all-district throughout all four years of high school.
As a freshman at TCU, she held All-Tournament honors at the Georgia Bulldog Invitational and the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational. Smith was also named Co-Big 12 Newcomer of the Week and recognized previously as a TCU Muscle Milk Athlete of the Week.
In her second season, among single conference matches, the League City native totaled 17 service aces in conference action, 0.27 service aces per set and finished ranking No. 7 in conference standings. In the same season as a sophomore, Smith placed second on the team with 27 service aces and 277 digs.
Smith concluded her second season with titles as MVP of the TCU Molten Invitational, and picked up All-Tournament honors at the TCU Nike Invitational and Shamrock Invitational. In the classroom, the outside hitter earned titles as All-Big 12 Honorable Mention and Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Next up, the Frogs take on the Iowa State Cardinals on Saturday, Nov. 7 in Fort Worth, Texas at 12 p.m.
