The Opponent
Houston Baptist comes into Thursday night's game with a 1-1 record, having defeated Crowley's Ridge in its last outing, 102-62. The Huskies, who opened the season falling to New Mexico State, 91-69, have been carried by Anthony Odunsi this year. Odunsi, who dropped a team-high 17 points on 8-of-14 from the field against the Pioneers, is averaging 14.5 points per game and 6.0 assists per contest. Colter Lasher has been just as productive, tallying 14 points a game and 4.5 boards.
The Series
TCU comes into Thursday night, leading the all-time series at 5-1. The Frogs have won four-straight in the all-time series, but haven't faced the Huskies since an 89-62 victory in 1976. Every game in the series has been played in Fort Worth.
Brodziansky Honored By Big 12 Conference
Sophomore Vladimir Brodziansky was honored on Monday as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Brodziansky, who went 6-of-7 from the floor in helping TCU record a 90-77 victory over Southeastern Louisiana, recorded his first career double-double, tallying a game-high 19 points and 10 boards. He also posted a team-high five assists and two blocks, while making his first career start.
Elite Company
By scoring a double-double in the Horned Frogs' season-opener with 19 points and 10 boards, Vladimir Brodziansky became only the sixth TCU player since 2000 to post a double-double in the first game of the year. He also became the first newcomer during that stretch to record a double-double in a season-opener.
Making A Statement
Brodziansky is the first junior college transfer to lead TCU in scoring in a season-opener since 2008 when then transfer Edvinas Ruzgas scored a team-high 16 points against Western Michigan.
A Block Party
Freshman JD Miller recorded five blocks against Southeastern Louisiana. With his five blocks, Miller, who ranks fifth in the NCAA in blocks per game, is one of only five freshmen in the country to have five blocks in their season-opener. He joins the likes of Obediah Church of Missouri St., Deyonta Davis of Michigan St., Chimezie Metu of Southern California and Horace Spencer of Auburn to post five or more blocks in game one of the young season.
No Soup For You
For a second-straight season, TCU posted 10 blocks in its season-opener, having done so a year ago against Prairie View A&M. The Frogs have now posted 10 or more blocks in a game seven times in the last two years. Prior to 2014-15, the last time the Horned Frogs had swatted away 10 shots in a single-game came in 2002 when TCU recorded 10 blocks versus Southern Miss. The Frogs finished last season 14th in the NCAA in blocked shots per game, averaging 5.3 per game.
