WELCOME TRUSTEES
A special welcome this week to all our Board of Trustees on campus! Welcome ladies and gentlemen!
GO PURPLE FRIDAY/MOVEMBER
As we mentioned last week, several members of my staff and I are supporting TCU's campus initiative to raise awareness and fundraising for prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and general well-being in men. The facial hair for November is providing a nice complement to the Go Purple Friday attire for today.
HISTORY MADE
Our donor relations office on campus put on a terrific event last night for our folks who made the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena possible. The below photo shows history made with Mr. Schollmaier making the first shot in the facility named after him.
IMPORTANT BASKETBALL REMINDERS
Until our men's and women's basketball games move into the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena Dec. 20, please note that your regular-season parking pass is valid for the lot you purchased for all games held in the University Recreation Center. For men's games at Wilkerson-Greines, those with parking passes can park in the reserved area on the north side of the facility.
Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena Courtside Club members will be provided a hospitality area for pregame and halftime. The club room is located in the lower lobby of the University Recreation Center. For games at Wilkerson-Greines, the courtside club will be located off the north concourse and open pregame and halftime. Please present your game ticket to access the courtside club for games at Wilkerson-Greines.
Men's Basketball Fast Break Club members will be provided a hospitality area for pregame and halftime in the lower lobby of the University Recreation Center. For games at Wilkerson-Greines, the Fast Break Club room will be located off the north concourse and open pregame and halftime.
Women's Basketball Fast Break members will be given concession coupon vouchers for all games at the University Recreation Center. Fast Break Club members can pick up their coupons in the lobby prior to the games Friday, Nov. 13, and Sunday, Nov. 15. Coupons not picked up during these games will be mailed.
BASKETBALL RULES CHANGES
We've mentioned previously some of the rules changes with the women's game this year. Please CLICK HERE for a video on changes in men's basketball.
COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENT
It's an honor to represent TCU as a member of the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee. We had our first meeting in Indianapolis this week. Before we know it, Feb. 19 and our season opener versus Loyola Marymount will be there.
SHUTTLE PARKING CHANGE
Please note that Overton Centre has replaced McKinney Memorial Bible Church for Saturday's free gameday parking and shuttle service. Overton Centre is located at 4100 International Parkway, Fort Worth 76109. We also have Travis Avenue Baptist Church located at 800 W. Berry Street, Fort Worth 76110. Shuttle service will begin three hours prior to kickoff. The last shuttle will depart Amon G. Carter Stadium 45 minutes after the conclusion of the game. No tailgating is allowed.
If headed to Overton Centre from I-20, take the Hulen Street exit and turn north onto South Hulen Street. You'll then turn left onto Overton Plaza, crossing International Plaza to enter the Overton Centre. Parking lots are on the right and left of the driveway. We have 500 spaces available.
TV AUDIENCES LOVE THE HORNED FROGS
We were once again the top-rated college football game in Dallas-Fort Worth, the nation's fifth-largest television market. The 8.3 rating for our game at Oklahoma State on FOX was easily the most-watched college game last Saturday in the Metroplex.
DONE AND DONE
A great new initiative from our marketing department is our partnership with Experience. One group of fans that purchased the postgame photo on the field after the West Virginia contest was having quite the memorable day. As you can see in the below photo, they are holding a sign that reads, "Done & Done 10-29-15." The sign references Betsy (on the right), who completed her final day of radiation that day. Our football game that evening helped her celebrate now being cancer free!
Please CLICK HERE to see all the exciting opportunities to upgrade your experience when attending a game at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
ON THE DOCKET
With a season-opening basketball doubleheader Friday and our 11 a.m. home football game Saturday versus Kansas, a full weekend is about to commence for the Horned Frogs. Our Senior Day festivities at football will begin at 10:49 a.m. Please make sure to arrive early.
Our women tip off Friday at 6 p.m. versus Sam Houston State at the Rec Center. The men then follow at 8:30 p.m. versus Southeastern Louisiana. The women will also host New Orleans Sunday at 2 p.m.
Volleyball is at No. 10 Kansas Saturday. Equestrian continues Big 12 play this weekend at Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Rifle, off to a 6-0 start and ranked second nationally, is also on the road as it travels to Ohio State. Cross country heads to College Station for the NCAA South Central Regional, while our men's and women's tennis programs are being represented at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships at Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: The classic "Office Space" gave us the great line of, "Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays."
This Week's Question: "I'm in a glass case of emotion."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Ocean State University (OSU) is conducting its annual cross country banquet at the end of the month. Stride, a junior student-athlete on the team, achieved First Team All-America honors this year, so her parents and two siblings would like to attend the banquet. Is it permissible for OSU to provide complimentary admissions to Stride's family members?
Yes. NCAA Bylaw 16.6.1.6 states that an institution may provide complimentary admissions to an institutional awards banquet for the family members of any student-athlete being honored at the banquet. [R] (Adopted: 11/1/00, Revised: 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13) As a reminder, Bylaw 16.02.4 states that for purposes of Bylaw 16, a family member is an individual with any of the following relationships to a student-athlete: spouse, parent or legal guardian, child, sibling, grandparent, domestic partner or any individual whose close association with the student-athlete is the practical equivalent of a family relationship. (Adopted: 1/19/13 effective 8/1/13)
