Rifle Dominates Tiger Open

FORT WORTH – The TCU rifle team opened the season with a dominating showing at the Tiger Open hosted by Memphis. The squad fired a team aggregate score of 4,696, taking home top spot in both air rifle and smallbore.
TCU is off to its best start to a season since the 2012-13 season as its aggregate score is among the top 10 ever fired in the program's history.
The Tiger Open featured Memphis, Jacksonville, Ole Miss, Akron and UT Martin. The Horned Frogs won by a wide margin as Memphis came in second with an aggregate score of 4,640.
The Horned Frogs fired a school-record 2,379 in air rifle, breaking the previous record of 2,373 fired at The Citadel on Oct. 6, 2012. TCU boasted four of the top five scores and six of the top 10 marks en route to the dominating air rifle victory.
Mindy Miles fired a match-best 598 to take home the individual title. Only three other team members in program history have fired a 598 or better. Newcomer Nicole Hankey fired a personal-best 596 to finish second. Hannah Black's 593 was fourth, while Rachel Garner's personal best 592 was fifth.
Shooting air rifle for the first time in a collegiate match, Barrett Ray fired a personal-best score of 589 to finish eighth. Sally Li rounded out the top-10 with a score of 587.
On the smallbore side, the Frogs turned in another solid performance, shooting an Open best 2,317. Four Frogs turned in top-10 finish led by Garner's personal best 586 for a first-place finish. Miles fired a 580 to finish eighth. She was followed by Black in ninth with a 579 and Li in 10th with a 576.
