FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU men's and women's cross country teams completed action at the Big 12 Championships on Saturday in Stillwater, Okla.
The men's team finished ninth in the 8,000-meter race, and the women's team placed 10th in the 6K.
"We didn't race up to our capabilities as a team today," coach Jennifer Fazioli said. "We had a number of our top runners banged up or out, and that certainly had a considerable effect on our performance. We need to get better and we will."
"We need to be more competitive, aggressive and focused when we race, and we are in the process of working on those fundamentals. I believe that their work on those aspects of their racing will come to fruition in the coming seasons."
Sophomore Dillon Smith led the Horned Frog effort for the men with a time of 27:12.7. Sophomore Matthew Brown followed at 27:44.0. Also competing for TCU in the 8K race were Ryan Spetnagel (27:47.5), Eric Vetere (28:20.6), Aaron Reichner (28:34.1), Chris Martinez (28:56.7), Shane Murray (29:06.1) and Robbie Lacomble (29:18.5).
The women's team was led by sophomore Bailey Sullivan. Sullivan finished the 6,000 meter race in 22:12.8, placing 42nd overall. Freshman Brenley Goertzen placed second for the Frogs at 23:16.5.
