Jan. 14, 2015 WELCOME BACK STUDENTS!
With our spring semester beginning Monday, it's great to have our students back on campus. We hope everyone had a great break.
TOWN HALL MEETING SET
As a reminder, make sure to mark your calendar for Monday, Feb. 2, at 6 p.m. when we host our next TCU Athletics Town Hall Meeting in the BLUU Auditorium. We'll cover whatever topics are on your mind and let you know what's happening on our end.
BASKETBALL STUDENT SHUTTLE SET
We're excited to announce that we will have a student shuttle to Wilkerson-Greines for all our remaining men's basketball home games. The shuttle bus will depart from the BLUU one hour before game time and return immediately afterwards.

SELLOUTS
Two of our upcoming men's basketball home games at Wilkerson-Greines are sold out: Monday's contest versus Texas and Jan. 28 against Kansas.
FOOTBALL RECOGNITION
Make sure to stay in your seats at halftime of Monday's sold-out men's basketball 6 p.m. home game versus Texas. Our Big 12 and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl champion football team will be recognized in a halftime ceremony.

MORE HARDWARE FOR COACH PATTERSONCongratulations to Gary Patterson on being voted by his peers in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) as the 2014 FBS National Coach of the Year! Coach Patterson accepted the award last night at the AFCA Convention in Louisville. That makes eight national coach of the year honors this year and 18 overall in Coach Patterson's 14-year tenure with us.

RANKINGS
It's great to have four of our sports currently ranked in the top 5 nationally. Football finished No. 3 in the Associated Press poll, baseball is No. 2 in preseason rankings, equestrian is No. 2 and rifle is No. 3. We also have men's indoor track and field at No. 25, men's tennis at No. 37 and women's tennis at No. 45.

GREAT WEEK FOR WOMEN'S HOOPS
It was a great week for our women's basketball program under first-year head coach Raegan Pebley! Last Wednesday, we rallied from a 24-point second-half deficit for an 86-84 victory over Iowa State. We then defeated No. 16 Oklahoma State, 70-66, on Saturday night. Both games were in the Rec Center, which is providing us a great home-court advantage and atmosphere this season.
Congratulations to Zahna Medley on being named the Big 12 Player of the Week for her efforts in leading us to victories in those two games.

ON THE DOCKET
In addition to basketball in the midst of Big 12 play, it's back to action for several of our winter and spring sports. Women's basketball, with back-to-back conference wins, is at Kansas tonight at 7 p.m., before returning home to host Oklahoma on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Rec Center. Men's basketball is at Texas Tech on Saturday at 3 p.m. Our men's and women's swimming and diving programs are at West Virginia for a Friday night meet, while men's and women's indoor track and field opens its season on Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational. Rifle hosts Air Force and the Coast Guard on Saturday. Tennis season returns on Sunday to the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center as the women host Missouri at 10 a.m. and the men face UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m.

NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: We went back to 1980 with Airplane, arguably the funniest movie ever made. One of the many classic lines was, "Surely you can't be serious." "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."

This Week: "Get off my plane."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
The Ocean State University (OSU) men's soccer team made it to the NCAA Final Four this past season. The local professional basketball team would like to honor the student-athletes during its next home game.
Is this permissible?
Can the professional team promote the OSU team's attendance? Yes. It is permissible for the professional team to provide complimentary admissions to the student-athletes and honor them for their achievements. The professional team may also promote the student-athletes' appearance at the game. NCAA Bylaw 10.6.4 states that a student-athlete may accept complimentary admission to a professional sports contest during which the student-athlete and/or intercollegiate team is being recognized by the professional sports organization for extraordinary achievements. Further, it shall be permissible for the professional sports organization to promote this event to the general public. [R] (Adopted: 1/9/96 effective 8/1/96)
