DENTON, Texas - The TCU cross country teams posted a pair of fifth-place finishes at the Ken Garland Invitational on Saturday in Denton.
"I know the men and women are pretty tired from training right now," coach Laura Harmon said. "But they went out, competed and ran their best. That's what I wanted to see."
For the second-straight meet, freshman Bailey Sullivan was the top finisher for the Frogs. Sullivan posted a time of 18:48.3 in the women's 5k race, finishing 16th. Anna Cozart also posted a top-20 mark with a time of 18:54.7.
Five freshmen led the way for the women's squad and were 0.2 seconds away from a fourth-place team time.
On the men's side, sophomore Greg May posted a time of 21:47.6, just shy of a top-20 finish in the four-mile race. Dillon Smith (22:08.7), Taylor Moult (22:09.1) and Matthew Brown (22:14.8) all finished together with top-30 times.
The men's squad also narrowly missed a fourth-place mark by 0.4 seconds.
"We got what we wanted out of the weekend and that was to get an effort in, but with the focus being on the Chile Pepper Festival in Arkansas next weekend," Harmon said.
The Frogs head to Fayetteville, Ark., next weekend for the Chile Pepper Festival on Saturday, Oct. 4.
