AD MEETINGS
It's been a busy last couple of days in Grapevine, where I've been gathered with fellow athletics directors from around the country. We've been meeting to discuss topics relevant to collegiate athletics that have been at the forefront of media coverage. We'll keep you posted as developments occur and there is news to report.
PURPLE OUT DALLAS
We look forward to seeing as much purple as possible in the stands at Ford Stadium in Dallas on Saturday for our 11 a.m. game at SMU. It's great to have 10 of our 12 games in the state of Texas this season.
ARRIVE EARLY
The Big 12 has announced a 2:30 p.m. kickoff for next Saturday's home game versus Oklahoma. With an expected sellout, please make sure to arrive early to avoid the long lines at the Amon G. Carter Stadium gates as kickoff nears.
Please also note that it's a purple and white split stadium for our color blocking. The east side is being asked to wear white with the west side (press box side) in purple. We very much appreciate your efforts in making our first two home games with a Purple Out and White Out very successful.
As you might recall, everyone's individual football tickets this season are marked, based on your seat location, with what color to wear for each game.
INSIDE TCU FOOTBALL WITH Gary Patterson
As a reminder, Inside TCU Football with Gary Patterson airs each Thursday at 3:30 p.m. CDT on FOX Sports Southwest. Make sure to check your local listings for viewing availability and all subsequent airings after Thursday.
HONOR ROLL
Congratulations to freshman Kela Gray from our soccer program on being named the Big 12 Player of the Week! The Chicago native had the game-winning goals in our weekend victories over SMU and North Texas, enabling us to tie a school record with our six-game winning streak.
VOLLEYBALL AND SOCCER CLINICS SET
Our volleyball and soccer programs are both having youth clinics for kids eighth grade and younger this weekend. The volleyball clinic is pre-game on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The $6 fee includes the clinic and ticket to the 2:30 p.m. match vs. Iowa State. We will have face painting and other activities between the clinic and the match. To register, please CLICK HERE.
The soccer clinic will follow Sunday's 1 p.m. home game with Kansas. The same $6 fee also includes a ticket to the game and clinic. Please CLICK HERE to register.
ON THE DOCKET
We have 10 sports in action this week, beginning today as volleyball opens its Big 12 season at Texas Tech while women's golf concludes its tournament in Vail, Colo. Soccer will take its school record-tying six-game winning streak into its Big 12 opener on Friday at 7 p.m. versus West Virginia at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. We're also home on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Kansas.
Saturday at 10 a.m. marks the season debut for women's swimming and diving as they host Tulane. Later that day, also in the Rec Center, volleyball faces Iowa State at 2:30 p.m. Football has its 11 a.m. kickoff at SMU. Cross country will compete in Denton on Saturday, while men's golf, men's tennis and women's tennis take part in various tournaments around the country this weekend.
LET'S TALK
In case you missed our online chat today, please CLICK HERE for a recap.
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: Since it was shot just outside of Tucson, Ariz., where I used to call home, I've always had a special place in my heart for the 1987 comedy classic Can't Buy Me Love. It starred a very young Patrick Dempsey, who was referenced with the line, "You took him from geek status to king status to no status."
This Week: "Oh come on, thirty more years of this, you get a tiny pension and a cheap gold watch."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
The Ocean State University (OSU) football team is traveling to an away from home contest this weekend. OSU has designated this trip as a family trip, so the equipment manager would like to bring his high school-aged son.
Is this permissible?
Yes. NCAA Staff Interpretation - 12/2/08 - Prospect-Aged Child of an Institutional Staff Member Traveling with the Institution's Team to an Away-From-Home Contest (I/II/III) - states that it is permissible for an institution, at its discretion, to provide expenses related to travel (e.g., transportation, lodging and meals) to away-from-home contests to prospect-aged children of institutional staff members and athletics department staff members.
