The men's team finished fifth and the women's squad finished sixth in their respective races.
"What I would like to see moving forward as a team is for everyone to see where we need to get," coach Laura Harmon said. "In order to do that, they need to make sure they are working hard and taking care of themselves every single day.
"We had some really solid performances though. Our freshman class did really well and is an indicator of our future, which is really exciting."
Tilly placed 16th with a time of 14:41.3 in the women's 4,000-meter race. Freshman Bailey Sullivan was less than a second from putting up a top-20 finish after her time of 14:51.5. The women's team finished with a total of 127 points.
On the men's side, Smith tallied a time of 20:07 en route to a top-30 finish in the men's 6,000-meter race. Fellow freshman Dylan Larkin finished closely behind Smith, two spots back, with a time of 20:16.2. The men totaled a combined score of 137 points.
It was the first collegiate race for 10 of the 15 Frogs who competed in tonight's event.
TCU will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the UTA Season Opener in Arlington, Texas.
