POST-GAME QUOTES
Texas 59, TCU 54
Daniel-Meyer Coliseum
Fort Worth, Texas
TCU head coach Trent Johnson
Opening statement:
"Well, we had an opportunity and I just feel for Karviar (Shepherd) because I'd like him to be able to play and be physical and aggressive. We have got to do a better job on the glass. It's really painful because during the last four league games we've had a lot of injuries.
"Texas was good. I have the utmost respect for them just because when you look at their team, top to bottom, they play for each other. Jonathan Holmes was a good player last year, but this year, he's probably one of the more underrated players in the country."
TCU junior forward Amric Fields
On his feelings towards being so close to winning:
"We're not satisfied. We feel that we're tougher than what we show, but we just have to figure it out. It was 56 to 25 on the glass and that's ridiculous. That's where the game was. Right there."
TCU freshman forward Brandon Parrish
On his effort throughout the game:
"I felt like I held back during the first half of the game. The second half, I just wanted to play aggressive. I never feel like it's enough unless we win. No matter what I do in each game, if we don't win, it's basically a waste."
Texas head coach Rick Barnes
Opening Statement:
"I don't know if I'd say that the [Kansas] hangover is real because I don't want to take anything away from TCU. I give TCU a lot of credit. They're shorthanded in terms of numbers and I know what that's like. They've improved and as coaches, we know they're going to win some games. I don't want to take anything away from Trent (Johnson) and his staff, but we played not to lose in the first half. We tried too hard to get the ball inside and were forcing it. We had ten turnovers because we were turning down shots.
"TCU made a nice adjustment. Even if our guys caught the ball, they couldn't do anything with it. I told the guys at halftime that this is going to go the distance and it's going to be tough. TCU won the first half, but we got the tempo going more where we wanted it in the second half. I don't think it was a hangover from the last game, but we were tentative and you can't play that way."
On TCU head coach Trent Johnson:
"The coaches are too good in this league. It's hard to be where Trent (Johnson) is right now, but I think that's a great testament to how good he is. His guys know how to battle and they might execute better than anyone else in the league. They don't do a lot of complicated things, but they execute. We told our coaches that it was going to be a tough game and TCU made it the kind of game it was."
