NEW YORK -- The Associated Press has named TCU linebacker Paul Dawson a first-team All-American with quarterback Trevone Boykin a second-team selection.
Dawson, also a first-team Walter Camp and USA Today All-American, is the only player in the nation with at least 100 tackles (128), five sacks and four interceptions. He's also the lone Big 12 player since 2000 to accomplish the feat.
Dawson's 18 1/2 TFLs are tied for the most by a Horned Frog over the last six seasons. The Dallas native also has three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, five pass breakups and five quarterback hurries.
At his current rate of 10.7 tackles per game, which tops the Big 12 and is tied for 12th nationally, Dawson is on pace to record the most season stops in the 14-year tenure of head coach Gary Patterson. Dawson projects to 139 tackles which would tie for seventh all-time at TCU. The top mark under Patterson is 131 by Martin Patterson in 2004.
Boykin, who finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting, tops the Big 12 and is third nationally in total offense (363.0 yards per game). He is on pace to become just the third quarterback since 2009 to average over 300 yards passing (309.5) and 50 yards rushing (53.5). The other two were Heisman Trophy winners Robert Griffin III and Johnny Manziel.
Boykin has set TCU single-season records for passing yards (3,714), touchdown passes (30), total offense (4,356) and touchdowns responsible for (39).
A Dallas native, Boykin is second on the Horned Frogs with 642 yards rushing and eight touchdowns on a 4.5 per carry mark.
Boykin was the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week after his TCU-record seven touchdown passes and 433 yards passing in an 82-27 win over Texas Tech.
Boykin has also received second-team All-America honors from Walter Camp, USA Today and CBSSports.com. He is a finalist for the Manning Award and Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award. He was also a finalist for Walter Camp Player of the Year and the Davey O'Brien Award.
Boykin and Dawson were the Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
