THANK YOU STUDENTS AND HORNED FROGS NATION!
What an incredible atmosphere this past Saturday in Amon G. Carter Stadium! I've had many of you share with me how it was the loudest crowd you've been a part of in The Carter since that memorable 2009 Utah game. A special "shout out" to our incredible student section! Beginning with your early arrival, you truly set the standard and made the game atmosphere electric! Head Coach Gary Patterson and our players were talking about you in their postgame media sessions.
It's also been great to see our new color block initiatives working great. All of you are playing a major part in providing us a great home-field advantage.
Let's now bring as much purple as we can to Waco!
BASKETBALL MEET THE FROGS
Please mark your calendar for next Thursday, Oct. 16, from 7 to 8 p.m. when we host our TCU Men's and Women's Basketball Meet The Frogs in the University Rec Center. We'll have the players and coaches from both teams present as we celebrate the upcoming season! Enjoy autographs, food, games, prizes, shooting contests and TCU Spirit during our fun-filled hour.
FACILITY UPDATE
Fall baseball practice is underway and our team is already making great use of the new G. Malcolm Louden Player Development Center! We had a terrific dedication ceremony last Friday. Malcolm has been an unbelievable friend and supporter of our athletics program. We truly appreciate his generosity in making this state-of-the-art facility a reality.
Over at the Lowdon Track and Field Complex, as the below photo shows, the foundation for a new set of bleachers is starting to be framed. We also have interior demo work continuing at our basketball facility.
HORNED FROG CLASSIC NEARING
We're almost sold out! The Oct. 20 Horned Frog Classic is less than two weeks away. You can still play in the morning round at 8 a.m., but you need to hurry. Sign up today at www.tcufrogclub.com to support scholarships for our TCU student-athletes.
OSU KICKOFF TIME SET
In case you missed it from earlier this week, our Oct. 18 home football game with Oklahoma State will have a 3 p.m. kickoff and be televised on FOX Sports 1.
CARP AND FINNY
Two of the biggest stories in the Major League Baseball playoffs continue to be our own Matt Carpenter and Brandon Finnegan! Matt has three postseason home runs for the Cardinals, while Brandon continues to live the dream in looking to amazingly pitch in the College World Series and MLB World Series in the same season. If you're watching the games, there have been numerous references to TCU in telling the stories of both Matt and Brandon. Go Cards and Go Royals!
BIG 12 HONOR ROLL
Congratulations to Trevone Boykin and Paul Dawson on being named the Big 12 Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for their efforts in our win over Oklahoma. Trevone totaled a career-high 395 yards of offense and two touchdowns, while Paul recorded 11 tackles and the pick six to break a fourth-quarter tie and give us the lead for good.
ON THE DOCKET
Even though we don't have any home events this week, there's no shortage of activity for our sports programs. While you know about football's Saturday 2:30 p.m. game at Baylor, we have soccer headed to Oklahoma for weekend contests at Oklahoma State and OU. Volleyball and rifle will both be in Morgantown for weekend matches against West Virginia. Swimming and diving will compete at UT-Permian Basin on Sunday, while men's tennis will have select members of its team in a Pro Circuit Event in Mansfield.
SPANNING THE GLOBE
The below photo shows Cole Bryan and Amanda Stevens flashing the Horned Frogs hand sign at the Ironman World Championship. Best wishes to Amanda, who has led the pro women out of the water the last two years!
NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: Everyone loves The Shawshank Redemption! It was the innocent banker Andy Dufresne who said, "If they ever try to trace any of those accounts, they're gonna end up chasing a figment of my imagination."
This Week: "Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Bo Gee is a golf student-athlete who withdrew from Ocean State University during the second week of classes. Bo was receiving a 50 percent scholarship and the coaches would like to re-award that aid to another student-athlete this semester. Is that permissible? No. The aid may not be re-awarded until the subsequent term. NCAA Bylaw 15.3.4.2 states that institutional financial aid based in any degree on athletics ability may be reduced or canceled during the period of the award if the recipient: (Revised: 1/10/92, 1/11/94, 1/10/95, 1/9/96, 12/13/05, 9/11/07)
(a) Renders himself or herself ineligible for intercollegiate competition;
(b) Fraudulently misrepresents any information on an application, letter of intent or financial aid agreement (see Bylaw 15.3.4.2.3);
(c) Engages in serious misconduct warranting substantial disciplinary penalty (see Bylaw 15.3.4.2.4); or
(d) Voluntarily (on his or her own initiative) withdraws from a sport at any time for personal reasons; however, the recipient's financial aid may not be awarded to another student-athlete in the academic term in which the aid was reduced or canceled. A student-athlete's request for written permission to contact another four-year collegiate institution regarding a possible transfer does not constitute a voluntary withdrawal.
