Notes On A Scorecard

Oct. 22, 2014 THANK YOU STUDENTS!
I'd like to start this week's edition with a special "shout out" to our student body. You have been absolutely incredible with the support provided our football program at home games this season. This begins with your early arrival at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Our student-athletes notice you and feed off your energy as they go through warm-up drills. You're hitting all three key areas: arriving early, being loud and staying late. We can't thank you enough and look forward to seeing you again in full force on Saturday afternoon for our game against Texas Tech at 2:30 p.m.

BACK FROM OUR NATION'S CAPITAL
I had the great honor of representing TCU and Fort Worth earlier this week at the Big 12 Conference's "State of College Athletics" Forum in Washington, D.C. It was a tremendous opportunity to discuss the issues facing collegiate athletics with some of my colleagues and national media members.
STRIPE THAT STADIUM
You are to be commended for the great job with our Amon G. Carter Stadium color blocking efforts this season. Please make sure to check your ticket for which color to wear on Saturday when we host Texas Tech at 2:30 p.m. We'll be alternating sections between purple and white throughout the stadium.

FACILITY UPDATES
In case you haven't driven by the Lowdon Track and Field Complex recently, the foundation is being set for our new seat of bleachers. The Fort Worth ISD has been a great partner as we move our men's basketball games off campus for one season due to the renovation of our on-campus facility. We've been prepping the Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center with signage, banners, a new floor and paint.
BASKETBALL SEASON-TICKET RENEWALS DUE
If you haven't done so already, please make sure to renew your basketball season tickets. This will guarantee you the best seats when we move into our new basketball facility for the 2015-16 campaign. Visit GoFrogs.com or call (817) 257-FROG (3764) to renew your tickets.
A PACKED HOUSE
Our soccer program is making a push for its first-ever NCAA Tournament bid. On Friday, we had the third-largest home crowd in program history as 2,553 folks packed into Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium for our 3-1 win over Texas. We're on pace to lead the Big 12 in soccer attendance for a third straight season, representing each year we've been in the conference.

GO FINNY!
We're very proud of Brandon Finnegan and wish him and the Royals the best in this year's World Series. Brandon has made history by becoming the first player to reach the College World Series and Major League Baseball World Series in the same year. We very much appreciate Brandon taking the time recently to tape his guest appearance in our Riff Ram Bah Zoo video played at last Saturday's football game versus Oklahoma State.
CONGRATULATIONS JOSH!
Congratulations to football's Josh Doctson on being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for his efforts in our 42-9 win over Oklahoma State. Josh had seven receptions for 225 yards, including touchdown grabs of 77 and 84 yards. The 225 yards was the top mark in the nation that weekend and just one yard shy of a school record, set by Jimmy Young in 2008 against Wyoming.

ON THE DOCKET
Volleyball is at No. 2 Texas tonight. If you can't make it to the match in Austin, you can watch it at 7 p.m. on the Longhorn Network. We'll then return home for a Friday night exhibition contest against the Zheijiang Chinese Team. Also on Friday, our equestrian program opens Big 12 play at Baylor. As you know, football hosts Texas Tech on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Our men's and women's golf and tennis programs will be in action in various tournaments around the country over the next few days.

NAME THE MOVIE QUOTE
Last Week's Answer: We went to the golf classic Tin Cup, which included TCU graduate Dennis Burkley proudly supporting his alma mater with TCU shirts and hats. The movie featured Kevin Costner who said to his rival Don Johnson, "Nice par, David."

This Week: "You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall."
COMPLIANCE CORNER
Ocean State University has set up a refueling station in its main athletic training room to provide healthy snacks to the student-athletes throughout the day. Some of the items available are supplements that contain impermissible banned substances. Is it okay to provide these supplements as a snack per the new legislation?
No. NCAA Staff Interpretation - 10/8/14 - Nutritional Supplements (I) - states that it is not permissible to provide a nutritional supplement that is not otherwise permissible by characterizing it as a snack or a meal incidental to participation.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback. We welcome all calls and emails.
