
Rifle Handles Air Force; Wins 22nd Straight

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team continued its dominance on the range with a 4,660-4,641 victory over Air Force Thursday afternoon. Sarah Scherer tied a school-record with a 596 in air rifle, while Mattie Brogdon set a personal-best with a 592 in air rifle.TCU put up a solid effort in air rifle, securing a 2,362-2,345 win in the event. Scherer, Brogdon and Sarah Beard finished 1-2-3 in the event with strong scores. Scherer tied her own school-record after shooting a 596. Brogdon's 592 was a career-high, while Beard turned in a score of 591.
Caitlin Morrissey fired a 583 to finish tied for seventh. Catherine Green shot a 581. Maggie Savage and Jaime Dowd each shot a 574. For Dowd, it set a career-high for the freshman. Also shooting for the Frogs was Nicole Makrakis, who fired a 546.
In smallbore, the Horned Frogs escaped with a 2,298-2,296 win over the Falcons. Brogdon was the top shooter, finishing second after firing a 581. Beard shot a 580 to finish third. Morrissey came in fifth with a 572, while Green tallied an eighth place finish after shooting a 565. Makrakis rounded out the Frog shooters in 11th place with a score of 556.
The Falcons will remain in Fort Worth for Saturday's NCAA Qualifier. The Qualifier will be the final match of the season leading into the NCAA Championships next month.
The NCAA Qualifier will go a long way in determining the top eight programs in the country. The committee takes four scores of the season with the NCAA Qualifier counting as one of them. The other three come from the regular season and all three must come from a different location.
