POSTGAME QUOTES
No. 6 San Diego State 66, TCU 53
Fort Worth, Texas (Daniel-Meyer Coliseum)
Jan. 5, 2011
Attendance: 4,287
TCU HEAD COACH Jim Christian
On not maintaining the lead at the end of the first half
"I thought we hit a wall, physically. We looked tight. We traveled a lot and we've played a lot of games and it just kind of hit us tonight. I told our team at halftime, 'We're down three to the No. 6 team in the country and you shot 33 percent in your building. We've shot the ball better, so we should be feeling good.'"
On SDSU's run in the second half
"We came out and they took it right to us. We turned the ball over. If you allow them to get open-floor turnovers, you're in trouble and that's exactly what happened. It was more about us than them. If you turn the ball over, you turn the ball over. That's the problem. We weren't surprised. They didn't change anything. They got a little more aggressive, defensively, and we got a little careless with the ball."
TCU JUNIOR GUARD Hank Thorns
On improving from this point forward
"We have to figure out what's going on and how we can better ourselves. We have to figure out where we can get our energy from in the second half."
On building from leading SDSU early in the game
"We have to come back tomorrow and practice harder. Basketball is a forgetful sport. You have to take it in, and once you walk out of the locker room, it's over. You have to get ready for the next game. We play UNLV on Saturday, and that's another big opportunity for us."
SAN DIEGO STATE HEAD COACH STEVE FISHER
On responding from a tough first half
Tonight I think we got frustrated that our shots weren't going in the first half, and then we had some quick fouls. We didn't play with as much composure as I would have liked. But we talked about it at halftime. The guys off the bench, James Rahon, Tim Shelton, Brian Carlwell and Jamaal Franklin, all did very well.
On his team's defensive game plan in the second half
"I really just told them to guard hard and smart and keep them out of the paint. Challenge every three and rebound on both sides."
On his team responding after he called an early second-half timeout
"To be honest, I really thought we were spent. We were exhausted, both physically and mentally. They ran us up and down the court, and fortunately they missed a few shots. We were on our heels. Fortunately, we were able to adjust and come back and get the win."
