
Equestrian Solid At Best In The West

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 8 TCU equestrian program went 1-1 in competition on Saturday to open the Best in the West Tournament at the Fresno State Student Horse Center.The Horned Frogs, who faced both No. 10 Fresno State and Sacred Heart on Saturday, currently sit No. 2 in the team standings heading into the final day of competition on Sunday.
Overall, TCU claimed five MVP honors on Saturday. Kelsey Huffman, a California native, led the Frogs with three of the five MVP's in Fresno.
"We had a lot of solid rides today," said head coach Gary Reynolds. "I am really proud of all the girls. I thought a lot of them rode very well, especially the freshmen. Now we just have to come back tomorrow and continue to ride."
Against the Bulldogs, the Purple and White won the Horsemanship section, but dropped an 8-3 decision. TCU battled back later in the day to crush Sacred Heart, 11-1.
Carrie von Uhlit and Courtney Chown helped the Frogs secure a 2-1 victory in Horsemanship against Fresno State, defeating Christa Beezley and Madison Silver, respectively. Von Uhlit topped Beezley, 73.5-63.5, while Chown was victorious over Silver, 73.5-70.5. With the win, Chown earned the MVP accolade for Horsemanship.
In Reining, Huffman recorded her first of three MVP honors, but lost 73-72.5 to the Bulldogs' Jill Tebbe.
Haley Jacobi secured the Frogs lone point in Equitation on the Flat against Fresno, dropping Jessica Kissell, 75-62.
TCU bounced back against Sacred Heart, sweeping the Western side, 6-0. The Frogs also went 5-1 in English on Saturday against the Crusaders.
Huffman claimed MVP accolades in Horsemanship, upending Casey Marino, 75-63.5. Lexie Estrada and Ashley Aikman also tallied points for the Frogs in the event.
In Reining, von Uhlit continued her winning ways, defeating Marino inside the Fresno State Student Center. Junior Kelly Morris also claimed a victory in the event, downing Grace Smith, 65.5-58, while Huffman earned her second MVP of the day, upending Alyssa Woronik, 71-59.5.
TCU also made quick work of Sacred Heart in Equitation over Fences, winning 3-0.
Lauren Quiroz, a junior from Villa Park, Ill., opened the competition beating Devan Beaulieu, 81-63. Quiroz earned MVP accolades with the victory. Taylor Frederick and Callie Selchau helped secure the Horned Frog sweep in Fences, defeating Julie Law and Abbie Britton, respectively.
In Equitation on the Flat, both Milana Trimino and Jacobi scored victories to give TCU a 2-1 advantage in the event. Trimino downed Beaulieu, while Jacobi was victorious over Britton.
The Horned Frogs, who are 8-6 on the season, will resume action tomorrow in Fresno against Tennessee-Martin. Start time is set for 11 a.m. CT.
